Wasn't able to go to the zoo last year like I've done for the last couple of years so I wasn't really able to pick up on what was going on...

My best guess is that the African River Fishes exhibit is still closed like it has been since late 2014... smh.

Glad to see that's back, when I was on Christmas Eve it was still closed.

Are the Aladabra Tortoises on exhibit yet?

Thanks. I had a feeling they were on exhibit but I'm going to the zoo tomorrow so I wanted to make sure they were there.

Popped by the zoo for a 2 hour visit today.

Talked to a person working at the zoo and she said the Baby Indian Rhinos name in Nantu and that he will be on exhibit in around a month.

The River area for Indo-Malayan fishes has been blocked off and a sign is saying that it will be a Asian carp exhibit.

It was awesome seeing the Aladabran Tortoises back at the zoo! The lemurs were quite intimidated by the size of them and scurried away whenever the male tortoise looked in their direction.

Finally, I saw 2 pairs of Panamanian Golden Frogs mating in their exhibit.

Nantu isn't an official name. It's an affectionate joke/pet name based on "Nandu 2"

The zoo's male secretary bird, Katani, is on the cover of National Geographic this month!

So they might be getting rid of the Siamese catfish, then? Damnit!

Are you referring to the open-topped exhibit or the one under the waterfall? The open-topped one will still be there but the one under the waterfall, is blocked off.

    I should have been clearer:oops:

Referring to the open-topped one. Thanks for the clear-up.

Board minutes are up... Mostly boring and note too noteworthy.

    Decision Body Profile

Project updates... There has been a problem with the design team for the orang exhibit and design is only 60% complete. Geez I guess the designer got lucky the strike happened and the gaur couldn't be moved until fall. A spring 2018 opening was clearly a pipe dream forget the strike. It's now projected to be complete in March of 2019. Which we all know means maybe May long weekend or sometime there after.

By May they hope to have the Aldrabra outdoor exhibit ready... Only if winter ends early will I buy that.

The Arctic fox exhibit needed to be decontaminated prior to bringing in Orage and Tempete.

The amphibian exhibits in the Americas pavilion will get upgrades over the winter and spring.

A new yard is being built by the ostrich and wildebeest for them to use. It's being designed now. Sort of sounds like the ostriches are losing part of their yard. I'm not sure why they aren't mixed anyway. Other zoos do.

I visited the zoo for the first time this year.
    • I've noticed a FedEx container in one of the panda exhibits. I think it is training so the pandas would know what to do once the time comes (which is exactly one month from now).
    • The Arctic foxes are now on display (finally)! I am so happy that the snow geese are back to their old enclosure and the foxes took over.
    • The tortoises were resting nearby one of the viewing windows. The lemurs, however, were in the trees at the back of the enclosure.
Lastly, does anyone know if European bison are coming back? I saw some animals that looked like bison across from Eurasian Wilds, nearby the macaque exhibits.

I also noticed that on my visit and someone working at the zoo told me that the Lemurs are scared of the Tortoises and scamper away from them.

They're new female wood bison. They're being held there for quarantine.

I've heard they're not so much scared, but cautious. It's also warmer in that area...there's the overhead heaters and a heating pad in the floor. I've seen the lemurs fairly close to the tortoises...as little as a few feet away.
