Can we avoid turning this into another fight please i personally am looking forward to the new giraffe house im not sure on the gibbon house, it needs updating but it seems to loose a few of the paddock enclosures as well
That sounds like a plan, fingers crossed (I don't mind debate/opinion but raking up the same argument from entrenched positions is pointless -if I wanted that I'd go on a theology website)..... 1. I can take losing paddocks with a few Mara in them; 2. Given recent disappointments with developments not coming to fruition I'm not getting too excited until I see it part-built (maybe not even then, we'll see). All things considered I really think the place seems to be moving in the right direction at the moment (albeit at a slow pace and obviously on a tight budget*) which is really great to experience after quite a few years of feeling more down about/on the place after each subsequent visit. In five years it'll hopefully be within close distance of being a solid, well-run and stable mid-level zoo. *Nothing wrong with that, it worked for Dudley
Hello all …, I am also somewhat optimistic as to Twycross Zoo turning a few pages and coming up from down below! Both the gibbon project and the new giraffe house seem like a good way forward. One might perhaps wish for chimpanzee or other great ape redevelopment, but let us not forget that only small steps may change the brickwork in the end! And indeed, just look at what magic Dudley has come up with on a very very very tight budget! Give it some time!
'interesting' new re-branding at Twycross, I would love to know the thinking behind this.. https://www.facebook.com/TwycrossZo...6016528411862/993883650625141/?type=1&theater

Great news: Female chimps Noddy, Rosie & Choppers have moved up into Flynn's group. Jambo is next door with Benji and Mongo - though the boys are not in together. This is huge group for Twycross.
So they've not hidden these boys away and bumped them off as someone suggested they were going to do!
What does this mean??? In NZ it is an abbreviation of McDonald's, but I suspect that's not what is meant here.
Did this happen in the last day or so? I was there earlier in the week and saw no sign of the above ones you mention or labels for them either.. I looked closely at the Chimps in that house. There were either nine or ten in the one side (with nine labels), and one(Mongo) on show in the other side. The labels on that side said Mongo & Benji- but not Jambo, though Mongo was alone and Benji was not on show. And the chimps were all very quiet too, indicating no recent changes/additions or such excitement. A question; is 'Flynn' the one with the reduced pigmentation on face and ears and is he a castrated male?
I only saw Mongo. Jambo was presumably still in the old house but may have been moved since. IMO Mongo looks awful- as well as being naked he has a big goitre under his chin. Looks surreal. I don't think Twycross do themselves any favours having animals like that on display- they could still keep them in the oldest chimp house where they can only be seen outdoors.
Guenons and Langurs. Twycross appear to have the following Guenons and Langurs in the collection at present, unless there are any others not on display. Guenons; 2.2. De Brazza Monkey( 1.1. born there) 4(1.2? + 1 seperate) Diana Monkey. 1.1. L'Hoests. 1.1. Lowe's. 1 Crowned, 1 lesser spot-nosed, Langurs; 3 Dusky/Spectacled + 1 handraised young. 4(2.2?) Francois Langur. 2 Javan Langur.(presumably being phased out). Also only two Colobus. Another phase-out species now?
It was announced on the previous thread that the last Roloway had died in the last month or two I think.
There was a single(female?) Diana or Roloway in the same 'singles' area as the Crowned and LSN Guenons. I wasn't sure which it was and there was no label. If its a Diana then that means they have four.
The post announcing the death of the Roloway was on 7/12/14 in the 2014 news thread. So, assuming that that information was correct, the one that you saw must have been a Diana.
