Yes, tschandler71 seems to be the unofficial spokesperson for his zoo's one claim to fame. He seems to mention it every time something even remotely relevant comes up.
Here are 5 odd animal combinations that I recently witnessed on my 24 day/81 zoo summer road trip: Bearizona = Red Fox/Swift Fox Austin Zoo = Bobcat/Serval Keepers of the Wild = Bobcat/Eurasian Lynx Wild Wilderness Drive-Through Safari = American Black Bear/Olive Baboon/Rhesus Macaque Out of Africa Wildlife Park = African Lion/Bengal Tiger/Black African Leopard Plus there were several drive-thru safari parks that had Ostrich/Emu/Rhea combinations.
So I haven't quite gone through the entire thread, but Lowry Park Zoo (or ZooTampa if we wanna use the stupid new name) has gharials mixed with Tufted deer. I recall Visayan warty pigs living with the deer at one point as well, but I think they have their own exhibit, now. The current African wild dog exhibit used to hold Striped hyenas and cheetahs, I don't remember why the hyenas left but the cheetah pair died pretty recently. Apparently African elephants and Impala is weird, I didn't know elephants were usually kept with only their own species. Warthogs are mixed in with the elands, kudu, and birds for some reason. Also, Alaska SeaLife Center and Denmark National Aquarium both have seabird exhibits with North Pacific wildlife underwater as well (rockfish, sculpins, etc.). Alaska SeaLife Center even has a Bering wolffish in the seabird exhibit. At Sea Life Helsinki, I noticed a few more odd species being put together, such as Banded archerfish with a Bluespotted ribbontail ray.
Up in my string of zoos Point Defiance mixes its Harbor Seals with California Sea Lions. Might not be the most bizarre mix but I thought it was pretty neat when I first saw it. The pinnipeds get along fine too.
Any Zoos with Malayan tapirs currently in mixed exhibts except Dortmund ( Orang-Utan), Singapur ( Siaman -still existing ?) and Beauval ( Hog deer, white necked crane ) ?
A lot of zoos/aquariums mix seals and sea lions. Beluga Whale and seal mixes are around as well. Bronx has them mixed with Northern White-Cheeked Gibbon, Prevost's Squirrel, and various birds including storks, waterfowl, a lorikeet. Omaha has them mixed with Francois' Langurs, Egyptian Fruit Bats, and various birds. ~Thylo
In Singapore the Siamang are now mixed with Tomistoma (False gharial). Zlin-Lesna has Malayan tapir with Javan gibbon and Pelicans.
