Animal Planet has greenlit a "docu-series" about the Bronx Zoo, presumably for this year.

Very interesting and exciting news! However, I feel Animal Planet's current shows are targeted towards the "bunny hugger" audience and thus might not appeal to many of us on here. Fingers crossed it's not like that, though, and is a more serious and educational program.

I'm just glad we'll be getting an Animal Planet show about animals:D Have you seen their shows lately? Most of what they show isn't even about animals now. "Treehouse Masters"? You gotta be kidding me

I noticed that too! I'm wondering if they're using some old footage as well as new.

The series looks interesting, and I am surprised they would have any elephant footage knowing the amount of protests that will cause. Regarding the cheetah, they could have a behind the scenes animal or it could be older footage. However; they do have some animals for special events- like red kangaroo, binturong and clouded leopard (all were at Brew the Zoo) that may only be kept behind the scenes at this time.

Keep in mind that the zoo probably had no editorial say in the filming. The producers and Animal Planet would decide what to include. And raising an outcry perhaps wouldn't bother them :)

It seems as if it is not available in British Columbia, Canada, which is a real blow as I was eagerly looking forward to it. Occasionally American shows have delays before they migrate up north to Canada. :)

I'm watching. I will watch anything on animal planet that has to do with animals, and what I mean by that is, this is the first animal planet show I will see in a while...:D

I'm recording it and watching tomorrow. The description of the first episode mentioned maleos, which means I'll probably enjoy it!

If anyone is wondering the description says "Ntondo the silberback gorilla gets diagnosed with glaucoma; Malayan tiger cubs; endangered maleos"

The first episode just wrapped, and let me say, I enjoyed it. It was the fist show to the program I enjoyed in a long time! The segments they showed where all very interesting, and I plan on recording the entire series.

It also confirmed that cheetahs are being held behind the scenes.

Haven't been able to watch unfortunately... Hopefully will soon, though.

The show can currently be viewed on the Animal Planet website if you want to try that method.

I enjoyed it. Now I have an even stronger desire to go to Bronx! The part about maleos was most interesting for me- I also learned I'd be pronouncing Sulawesi incorrectly. Can't wait for the next episode!

The Wildlife Conservation Society's YouTube channel has an interesting video on their Maleo breeding program if you'd like to see more.
