Living Shores Aquarium is a brand-new facility that is located in New Hampshire. By my count, the United States now has at least 170 public aquariums.

You found a thread I forgot to update yesterday :p They plan on pursuing AZA membership after they've been open for the required 1 year.

A new Sea Life is planned for New Jersey. I had little respect for the chain before, but after reading about this one my lack of respect is turning to loathing. This may be the most cringe-worthy aquarium description ever written. Be prepared to pound your computer in disgust as you read...

I was genuinely excited for this aquarium... now I feel disgusted...

While I had to make sure it wasn't an article published by The Onion, given the faux "Nemo submarine", Atlantis, mermaids, faux coral motives etc. in previous establishments of this chain, it shouldn't surprise this would be the next (logical?) step. How the visitors will understand the self-declared "conservation message" has yet to be seen.

Probably similarly to how visitors to Cheyenne Mountain gain a deeper understanding of reptiles after seeing a gecko in a lamp :p

I don't know, I think there's a pretty strong conservation message to be gained from seeing New York City underwater. Just think of it as foreshadowing ;)

@Coelacanth18 you mean that the ocean will become overpriced, overcrowded with hipsters and weirdos, superficial, dirty, snotty, rude and full of itself if we don't do anything about it? (Yeah, my last trip to NYC wasn't that great)

New Jersey is apparently becoming the land of tacky aquarium exhibits.

The brand-new St. Louis Aquarium opened recently (on Christmas Day!) to long lines and hopefully it's a popular attraction to a city that already has a fantastic zoo. Here is some info on the new facility.

    120,000 square feet in size

    44 exhibits

    250,000 gallon shark tank

    13,000 animals of 250 species

Maybe we could do a meet up after they've been open for a few months?
