Contrary to for example native reptiles from Europe, who have simplified/reduced shape of their body in comparison to tropical retiles, and who are not spectacularly colorful, or to terestrial mammals native from Europe, who mainly are in color of brown and gray, tropical animals come with very interesting shapes of their body, with interesting body parts (like big crests), interesting and spectacular coloration, etc.

Can you present your choice of tropical animal for wich you think it have most exotic shape of body/body parts (including hair or fur or feathers) or body color (or interesting combination of colors)?

    Mines are for example:

    -Ape: Bornean orangutan
-Monkey: Lion-tailed macaque, mantled guereza, Venezuelan red howler
    -Prosimian: Blue-eyed lemur
-Cat: Asian golden cat, Borneo bay cat, Sunda clouded leopard
-Artyodactilid: Giraffe of corse (West African), bongo antelope, okapi, bontebok
-Bird: Hornbills, parrots (all), shoebill, palm-nut vulture, king vulture, great blue turaco, birds of paradise
-Snake: Emerald tree boa, Indochinese spitting cobra, Jameson's mamba (Eastern subspecies with the black tail :) )
-Lizard: Boyd's forest dragon, Fiji iguanas, Utila spiny-tailed iguana, sailfin lizards
    -Croc: African slender-snouted crocodile
    -Dart frogs, Mantella frogs
-I will not go further with animals like fish, invertebrates.

I know that this thread may lose sense (as I realised finishing with the dart frogs), but can you try?

Maybe this-like formulated question is more clear: List tropical animals you can think of, that have very exotic shape and/or body color (combination of colors), in your opinion. Not to say very unusuall body-shapes or shapes of body parts or spectacular and unusuall coloration.

Not quite sure why you specifically think the Bornean Orangutan is a more unusual shape and colour than, say, the Sumatran Orangutan :p and given the wide range of variety in the primate family I am amazed you think the Proboscis Monkey and Aye-Aye are not worthy of note!

Because it is bigger, wider (at least male face), and the color is darker red and the longer hairs :p I guess

And yes, proboscis monkey and aye-aye have very unusuall or very exotic body parts. The middle finger in aye-aye - like it says come here :)

I think that you are looking for a combination of charm and strangeness, which is getting close to nuclear physics

I nominate boto, electric blue day gecko, great argus, silky sifaka and any tarsier species.
I think I have to mention that if we compare vertebrate classes, the bony fishes win hands down - their range of shapes and colours are unrivalled. Think frogfishes, hatchetfishes, knifefishes, oarfishes, pufferfishes, sunfishes and, of course, the leafy sea dragon :)

Well, this is all for today. I've started replying in the very early morning and passed all the sunday searching for more animals that fit (and for english common names for many species that I know only by the scientific name) with my super-slow and old computer. So I will leave the "colorful" animals for some other day. Now I'm very tired and it's time to go to bed.
