Waterfowl in North America pt 1: Screamers to Harlequin Duck

    I meant the Commons at the Bronx, but I don't think the Hooded at Buttonwood are wild either

    Recently got some more info about what waterfowl species Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary holds. Here are a couple updates:

    Bay Beach keeps Trumpeter Swan, Tundra Swan, Canada Goose, Wood Duck, Canvasback, Redhead, American Wigeon, and Northern Pintail.

    An extensive list of species which are also kept by Sylvan Heights:
    Also, Fort Worth keeps freckled duck and Philadelphia keeps red-breasted goose.

    Sadly, Ochsner Park's Tundra Swan has died. :( This zoo is no longer a holder of that species.

    I completely forgot to mention these until I though about this zoo again recently:

    Glacier Ridge Animal Farm keeps Black Swan, Mute Swan, and Canada Goose.

    Freckled Duck, Chestnut Teal, and Northern Pintail are kept by Columbus.

    Puna Teal and Baikal Teal are kept by Milwaukee.

    Bay Beach has a captive Mallard.

    Toledo keeps Spotted Whistling-Duck, White-headed Duck, Red-breasted Goose, Emperor Goose, Lesser White-fronted Goose, Long-tailed Duck, Spectacled Eider, Smew, Harlequin Duck, Ringed Teal, Mandarin Duck, Baer's Pochard, and Falcated Duck.

    The Wilds does not keep Trumpeter Swan.

    Shalom Wildlife Zoo holds Black Swan, Trumpeter Swan, Wood Duck and Mandarin Duck.

    Manitowoc Lincoln Park Zoo holds Tundra Swan.

    Doubtful :p It's a good sized collection for sure but some zoos (Bronx, for instance) have equal sized collections and waterfowl zoos (Ripley, Sylvan Heights) easily crack 60+ species.

    I need to look at my list but Sylvan at any point probably has more than 100 species on display and keeps probably another 15 species off display only in the avian breeding center.

    Cincinnati has Common Eider (Somateria mollissima), not Spectacled eider
    Cincinnati also has Marbled teal (Marmaronetta angustirostris), Australian wood duck (Chenonetta jubata), and Freckled duck (Stictonetta naevosa)

    Shedd has White-faced whistling duck (Dendrocygna viduata) in addition to the other three
