What is the spider which is burying itself in sand? That was neat.

Sooo... WdG is now officially open. I had a great day and did guided tours nonstop. MToxins also opened to the public in Oshkosh, Wisconsin today. Knowing the owner personally, I can only recommend you to go there when you're in the area.

I've been meaning to book a private tour for a while now, but if they are open to the public now I won't have too.

Due to the new ban on private venomous animal husbandry in NRW and the end of the exhibition on venomous animals at the NHM Bielefeld (organized by my "brothers-in-arms", the Gifttierhaus Eimsheim), I've taken in a few new species this weekend:
    - A juvenile pair of Eyelash vipers (Bothriechis schlegelii)
    - A few adult Emerald wasps (Ampulex compressa)
    - Vibrant hissers (Princisia vanwaerebeki) that will be my private pets and not part of WdG, though.

I'm tempted to take over a confiscated yellow Trimerusurus insularis, but, alas, I'm running low on available space.

Another exciting addition to the WdG: thanks to the HdN reptile curator, I've obtained the aforementioned rare yellow specimen of the Sunda Island pit viper (Trimerusurus insularis) . The animal was confiscated from an illegal private husbandry.

Nothing exciting, but another fun addition: I just received three nice Dendrobates auratus "Birkhahn" in a matching terrarium from a private person due to an upcoming pregnancy (which happens to be a common reason for animal donations, may it be gaboon vipers, spider or frogs).

Yesterday night I obtained 1.1. Rio Fuerte beaded lizards (Heloderma exasperatum) from a private owner. Since the female specimen in particular is not in optimal condition, I will keep them in quarantine until they're better.

The public interest for WdG is continously growing, meaning that I have to offer extra tours during the week after work. The visitor reactions have been just as positive so far as at the old venue. Most of the visitors are from Austria and Germany, but also from Hungary, Slovakia and South Africa.

The WdG passed its first annual federal inspection without any objections. And we got the permit for our little European adder outdoor exhibit.
