The new Austrian "Lockdown Light" guidelines are kinda confusing: museums are allowed to open on the 7th of December, while zoos are only allowed to re-open their outdoor exhibits on the 24th of December, with the rest closed till the 6th of January, 2021. Since WdG is both a museum and a zoo (like the closeby HdN that opens on the 7th), I'm a bit confused what applies to us. And so are the officials whom I've contacted for clearance...
It has been quite a journey, but it was worth it: today, two additional cobra, two new spider and three new scorpion species have been added to the WdG.
Current species list (as of December 2020): Snakes: Agkistrodon contortix and A. taylori Bitis gabonica Bothriechis schlegelii Cerastes cerastes Crotalus basilicus Crotalus ornatus Crotalus pyrrhus Heterodon nasicus Naja annulata Naja nivea Naja siamensis Oxyuranus microlepidotus Trimerusurus gumprechti Trimerusurus insularis Vipera ammodytes Vipera atra Vipera berus ...as well as several species of Lampropeltis, Pantherophis and Euprepiophis mandarinus Lizards: Heloderma suspectum Heloderma exasperatum Amphibians: Dendrobates auratus Incilius alvarius Pleurodeles nebulosus Rhinella marina Sclerophrys gutturalis Taricha granulosa Fish: Corydoras sterbai Platydoras armatulus Spiders: Ceratogyrus brachycephalus Latrodectus geometricus, hasselti, elegans & mactans Lasiodora parahybana Loxosceles laeta Macrothele holsti Nephila senegalensis Pterinochilus murinus Stromatopelma calceatum Viridasius "sylvestris" Scorpions: Androctonus australis Euscorpius sp. Hadogenes bicolor Halogenen troglodytes Hottentotta franzwerneri Hottentotta hottentotta Hottentotta jayakari Hottentotta judaicus Leiurus quinquestriatus Parabuthus villosus Tityus stigmurus Insects: Platymeris biguttatus Peruphasma schultei Psytalla horrida
The Phyllobates terribilis specimens died in 2019. In a new, larger venue, I'd like to keep a larger group in a nice show tank. The two female Sicarius spiders are alive and doing well; I forgot to c & p them from my data sheet.
I finally got an official federal reply whether I'm allowed to open again this month. The answer was: The next possible opening date has been delayed from early January 2021 to mid-January 2021, for whatever reason they deem fit. Great...
Do you Plan on adding venemos and poisonos fish and mammals Like Sting rays, Lion fish, shrews and pygmy slow loris?
@German Zoo World I've answered this very question several times in the WdG threads. I already keep two species of venomous fish in the exhibition. I might add new species if a future venue allows for it. But most certainly no live shrews, solenodons, male platypuses etc.
Pity I've seen annulifera but not annulata! Also a pity to note from your list that you no longer have the saw-scaled viper of which you spoke so glowingly......
Yet not N. annulifera that beautiful and charming. And nope, the Echis coloratus is still there. "Glowing" as usual...
"Mandje! Mandje! Timpe Te! Buttje! Buttje in de See! Mine Fru, de Ilsebill, Will nich so, as ick wol will.“ And that's why I don't have any additional venomous fish. So much about messing with me...Guess who's laughing now while you're scratching your heads in confusion? Dr Evil Lol GIF by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon - Find & Share on GIPHY
So a Brothers Grimm tale about a fisherman... You didn't count on my google skills and interest in anthropology and folk lore did ya ?
Ha, if only it were that easy. Try to translate that passage with your Google skills to understand what I insinuated. ^^
