    Translated from FB;

    The Crocodile Farm is pleased to present you the crocodile of West Africa (Crocodylus Suchus).
    Long considered a nile crocodile, recent dna analysis have revealed that it was of a species in its own right.
    A part of the water of the nile crocodiles was privatised to accommodate them.
    This morning a female already present on the site has discovered this space. She will soon be joined by other congeners from the zoo of Cologne (Germany) and the vivarium of Lausanne (Switzerland).
    We hope that this group will be the first player of this species in Europe!

    Koeln Zoo's curatorial staff has been very active in identifying Crocodylus suchus specimens in European zoos after the first discovery - a purported Mindanao Philippine croc ex Wroclaw Zoo (via Zuerich to behind the scenes at Koeln Zoo).

    It has transpired there is a sufficient number to initiate a conservation breeding program for the suchus - West African croc.

    Those already identified sadly remain yet a small number of the entire Crocodylus niloticus population in European zoos, and there is a definite need to identify all suchus within the niloticus complex.

    Incidentally, the Koeln Zoo specimen is a female and Lausanne Vivarium has had a breeding pair.
