Ok so Pertinax challenged me...so I'll do the zoos I do know! Pretty much all in the UK/Netherlands, so everyone help me out!

I'll start with the basics; the zoos that Zootierliste says have western chimps.

There are 58 that keep them (counting a zoo in Israel and a zoo in Kazakhstan). Of those 58, 21 (technically 22) are taking part.

Bremerhaven, Gelsenkirchen, Krefeld, Leipzig, Osnabrück and Stralsend in Germany.

    Ostrava in the Czech Republic.

Aalborg, Copenhagen and Odense in Denmark.

ZooParc de Beauval in France (and La Vallee des Singes keep males as back-ups for the breeding programme).

Amersfoort, Burgers' and Beekse Bergen in the Netherlands.

    Warsaw in Poland.

    Madrid and Valencia in Spain.

    Basel in Switzerland.

    Chester and Twycross in England.

    Edinburgh in Scotland.

The other zoos in the UK that keep western chimps are Colchester and Monkey World in England, Blair Drummond in Scotland and Colwyn Bay and Wales Ape and Monkey Sanctuary in Wales. I also believe there is a western chimp in Artis in Amsterdam but I'm not certain.

The itineraries for the UK and Netherlands will be up shortly.

On ZTL, it is listed that Belgrade zoo in Serbia (non-EAZA) also holds Western chimpanzees.

I know this. I mentioned there are 58 zoos that keep them in Europe (Israel and Kazakhstan aren't EAZA either). You'll notice I only mentioned 22; those are the ones that actually breed their chimps. Belgrade have a single male who I don't think breeds with their hybrid chimps.

Right the groups in the Netherlands!

Amersfoort: 12 chimps, 10 of which are western. Don't know names or genders I'm afraid. Anyone who does please post in the Dutch Apes in Zoos thread.

Arnhem: 17 chimps, 8 of which are western. Those are (in order of age) Mama (F, 1957~), Jimmie (F, 1960~), Marlene (F, 1975), Roos (F, 1979), Gaby (F, 1983), Giambo (M, 1989), Geisha (F, 1993) and Raimee (F, 1999). Already four/five of the seven females cannot breed with Giambo; Mama, Jimmie and perhaps Marlene are too old, and Gaby and Geisha are his maternal half-sisters/potential full sisters.

Beekse Bergen: no idea. Anyone who knows more about these groups please post in Dutch Apes in Zoos thread.

Amsterdam: 1 (potential) female; Amber. She came from Arnhem and it says in a research paper of the Arnhem group from the time when she was there that she was wild-caught. So she could be western?

    UK ones coming next.
