What animal is this

    Can anyone help me with what this bird is? It’s a postcard from the Bronx Zoo in the 1910's, but the website that had it was Spanish? You know what bird this is?

    I have a copy of this postcard which is captioned Amazon tiger bittern.

    I believe that today, it is normally called the rufescent tiger heron

    This species is at present exhibited at the Timmendorferstrand Owl Park, on the Baltic Coast. If the next Zoo Historica in Rostock can be held in September 2021, then it would make sense to visit this excellent small jewel !

    I normally attend ZooHistorica, as you know, and combining Rostock with a visit to Timmendorferstrand would be an excellent idea. However, attending this year's ZooHistorica is looking unlikely for those of us from the UK....
