I see a lot of people complaining about species. They see to often in zoos *coughs meerkats. But here is a diffrent question. What species of animals, would like too see more often. For me it would definativly be Muskox and Slothbears. Both are quite rare animals in captivity.

Basically any of the smaller and typically neglected or poorly known species (of any taxa) that urgently require ex situ conservation management in zoos due to their plight in the wild.

Coldwater marine species in general. A lot of aquariums don't have them in favour of the more colourful reef species. What few coldwater exhibits i have seen were very cool (pun absolutely intended).

For India, meerkats and lemurs, maybe Bat-eared foxes.
While I know that the first two are incredibly common in the 'west', they are quite rare in India, and probably not that hard to take care of.
I would also love to see orangs, gorillas and rhinos more, but considering how hard to care for and rare they are, it may be a good thing if they are not that common.

Animals that are difficult to care for I would not like to see more, but I’d like to see at least once, in the hands of a few specialized institutions.

I'm going to jump on the shoebill train, I'd love to see more of them (and any of the other taxa mentioned, honestly).

Clouded leopards as well, especially considering I've never actually seen them. From my understanding they're trickier to house well due to their arboreal needs, and stress from proximity to other carnivores, but having more zoos make the effort would be great.

Hyenas and more types of hoofstock. Also cetaceans to an extent.

African Leopards need better representation in America. I'm tired of seeing them replaced with Amur Leopards. Penguin exhibits usually only exhibit 1-3 different species of penguins but it is possible to do five in one exhibit so that would also be nice.

Dugongs, African, and Amazonian manatees I’d like to see in more aquariums, provided the tanks are spacious and enrichment is provided.

Other than the obvious elephant in the room (Brookfield, you know we missed these trunkers for a while), it would be nice to see more hyenas and certain African hoofstock (buffalo and certain antelopes like oryxes) more.

Oryxes are everywhere :) I'd always love to see more hyenas, though.

My zoos no longer have the former. It would require me having to travel to other states if it means seeing them more.

And agreed. Hyenas are just plain underrated in zoos.

To be honest I would like to see more of any of the smaller mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, invertebrates etc that are in dire need of ex-situ assurance populations in zoos.

In Brazilian zoos I would like to see more endangered and critically endangered native / endemic species being kept and as part of decent captive breeding programs such as :

    Buffy tufted marmoset
    Buffy headed marmoset
    Black lion tamarin
    Pied tamarin
    Superagui lion tamarin
    Southern Muriqui
    Northern Muriqui
    Red Uakari
    Bush dog
    Short eared dog
    Pampas cat
    Brazilian three banded armadillo
    Brazilian merganser
    Spix macaw
    Lear's macaw
    Araripe manakin
    Blue eyed ground dove
    Golden lancehead viper
    Alcatrazes lancehead viper
    Yellow-spotted Amazon river turtle
