The San Francisco Zoo is a pretty great zoo, but it needs some improvement, mostly cat kingdom and bear country. Here you can post what changes you would make to the SF zoo.

Personally, the field that was used for Zootober Fest should be
entirely renovated into an enclosure for hyenas or mountain lions (it is in the cat kingdom area, so mountain lions would fit.)

I don't think you'll find anybody here who thinks SF Zoo is "pretty great".

Short answer: leave North American species to Oakland. Slightly longer answer: fire the entire management team, burn the zoo to the ground, rebuild.

    1. Have a massive fundraiser with all the San Fran hipsters and try to convince the richest of animal lovers that this will be worth it.

    2. Sans maybe a few buildings of more recent origin, bulldoze EVERYTHING. I'm going for what Paris did and just restarting from the ground up.

    3. Convince the local government that the requirements of over 15 acres for elephants is asinine and how the Animal Rights lobby is nuttier than squirrel poop

    4. Get the best creative team I can and let them go nuts.

    1. Sounds good, maybe go for a similar marketing strategy that San Diego used for Africa Rocks?

    2. Bulldoze everything BUT African Savanna and the Children's Zoo.

    3. With tight bureaucratic control, who knows how far you'll get?

    4. Maybe they'll finally build the Indian Monsoon exhibit along with other unique habitats...

The sf zoo needs a lot of work.
    To start:
    1. Repurpose the pachyderm house for South American Tapirs and indoor chimpanzee and Orangutan exhibit.
    2. Build a large Indian wildlife exhibit in the area east of the hippo exhibit and lionhouse for Indian rhinos, Sitka deer and muntjac.
    3. Create new Sumatran tiger and Snow leopard exhibits on the hill leading up to the old feline conservation center
    4. Renovate feline conservation center and make it a small cats of Asia theme.
    5. Make the lion house and yards just for lions. Knock down walls and fix the moat so it slopes more gently.
    6. Expand Black Rhino exhibit into hippo yard/pool.
    7. Create a new hippo exhibit in lawn near patas monkey exhibit.
    8. Next to Gorillas, build a new Bongo Exhibit. Also bring in some more African forest hoofstock
    9. Renovate small unused savannah exhibit for African crested porcupine or Bateared foxes.
    10. Build a rhino barn next to savannah exhibit near tunnel for White rhinos and give them access to savannah.
    11. Get rid of kudu and get grants gazelle, Thompsons, impala or springbok. Also, maybe a species of vulture?
    12. Get more patas monkeys and put Vervet monkeys in exhibit.
    13. Move Francois langurs to new southeast Asian primate exhibit near new Indian wildlife exhibit in/near bobcat and anteater grotto and old Nyala field exhibit.
    14. River otter exhibit to empty area next to eagle islandeagle island.
    15. Move bobcat to new feline exhibit next to grizzly gulch. Along with mountain lions.
    16. Use old Blackbuck yard, black Rhino yard and part of nyala yard for mountain goat, pronghorn and desert bighorn exhibits.
    17. Move South American primates (howlers, squirrel monkeys, tamarins) to outdoor aviary area next to rainforest building, as well as the kudu. Bring in Saki monkeys
    18. Put Harpy Eagles in Andean Condor exhibit.
    19. Move Andean Condors to open area near train and across from Sea lions.
    20. Build new outdoor siamang and Orangutan exhibit where old monkey island used to be. Connect it to pachyderm house indoor exhibit.
    21. Proceed with current Chimpanzee exhibit expansion and build new chimp yard exhibit in place of triple grottos, expanding towards sifakas.
    22. Replace bongo exhivit and adjoining old giraffe exhibit with a cheetah exhibit.
    23. Make netted area next to Komodo dragon area, into an indoor moated climate-controlled dragon exhibit. Bring in one or two more dragons.
    24. Repurpose the entire Primate discovery center for African species. Connect the 5 separate enclosures into one larger exhibit for B&W colobus, Diana monkey, swamp monkey, blue monkey and other species.
    25. Turn nocturnal gallery exhibit into a nocturnal prosimians exhibit, with bush babies, pottos and mouse lemurs.
