I know that at least one Cincy local is going to get mad at me for what I'm about to say, but the Reptile House renovation was a joke. There are a fair amount of subpar exhibits in that building, and it seems none were renovated at all.

 

I agree. I don't really understand why that Chinese Alligator exhibit is staying the way it is. I think one main reason they did it was, along with the fact that it seemed to actually need some sprucing up, so they could switch some species around. I just hope they didn't secretly take the Rizo Island Skink off-show whilsts doing the renovation.

Very, very disappointing... I do see that some of interior in the exhibits have been changed though. And the closed off tortoise exhibit now holds something-I suspect a large snake since it looks a bit empty.

 

Brazilian porcupine has been added to the website. Discovery Forest maybe? Or just an education animal?

 

I would love to see the zoo put there pygmy marmosets on exhibit in Discovery Forest!!!!
will the rhim gazelles go into phase 4 of Africa when its complete?

 

There isn't an exhibit set up for marmosets but that's the disappointing thing. They have so much more space where they add at least 3 habitats. We suspect Thomson's gazelles will be added since rhim gazelles aren't savannah animals.

 

What rhim gazelles? They have them on the grounds?

 

They had them in 2007 in Wildlife Canyon until they were replaced with a Bactrian camel(s)

 

Are the Chinese Alligators still in Manatee Springs? Is this a permanent arrangement?

 

No it is temporary especially since Manatee Springs is a Florida featured attraction.

 

Since this exhibit is by manatee springs, they might bring the black bears from there grotto over to this exhibit. what about Florida Panther? that would be cool but probably unlikely

 

The zoo already has Cougars so I seriously doubt Florida Panthers, especially since Florida Panthers, being from a very hot environment, might not do so well in the Ohio winters. I don't think it was ever publicized that the bears would be moved so that's just speculation for now.

Good to see the zoo working out in the local environment.

I suppose now the American Crocodile will return to Manatee Springs.

I don't really see how the enlargement helps the animals besides them getting more food.

-Thai Red Mountain Snakes replaced the Razo Island Skink
-Yellow Pond Turtles replaced the Whiptail Lizards
-The Whiptail Lizards replaced the Rainbow Boas
-The Rainbow Boas replaced the Brazil's Lancehead
-Amazon Millipedes replaced the Giant African Millipedes
-Australian Walking Sticks + Spiny Leaf Insects replaced the Malayan Leaf Katydids
-The Leaf Katydids moved in with the Giant Walking Sticks
-The Yellow-bellied Beetles were removed from its exhibit with the Magnificent Flower Beetles, and replaced the Darkling Beetles/Velvet Ants
-The Tin Foil + Jade-headed Buffalo Beetles switched places
-Desert Hairy Scorpions replaced the Dead Leaf Mantis
-Giant Black Stag Beetles replaced the Sonoran Desert Centipede
-The Eastern Lubber Grasshopper exhibit was removed and they were placed in the empty Walking Stick/Spiny Leaf Insect exhibit

-The Duiker and Crowned Crane signs were taken down in Rhino Reserve
-The Alligator Snapping Turtle was taken out from under the Greenhouse bridge in Manatee Springs.

-Monkey ''bars'' were added to Jungle Trails
-Kuvua and Kiloro were both out but no baby
-The Cloud Rats were temporarily taken off
-The Grey Bamboo Lemurs replaced the Genets
-Now only the Ruddy Shelducks live with the Black-casqued Hornbills
-The Potto was taken out of the Aye-aye exhibit
-The Hyacinth Macaw was taken off the island. Scarlet and Blue-and-gold remain.
-The Hammerkop was added to the Grassland exhibit in Wings of the World
-Nothing replaced the old Cheetah nursery
-The Llama and Alpaca now live together
-A new species of sheep that I need someone to identify for me has been added with the Miniature Donkeys
-The giraffe viewing makes it look like you will view an entirely new exhibit
-A Barred Owl replaced the Red-tailed Hawks
-The empty Discovery Forest exhibit will soon contain Carnivorous Plants
-Lastly the zoo is, although not even close to being for sure, is trying to get back Harapan

 

In today's cincy enquirer, there's an article about the Africa exhibit, which opens at the end of June.

Article mentions the zoo will add 2 additional giraffes by the end of April.

Looks like the White Lions won't move to Africa, instead stay in current exhibit, article says The savannah will be home to two African lions – a female on loan from the Denver Zoo and a male donated by the National Zoo.

The goal is for the last 2 phases to open in two years.
