Whenever I go on animal-related forums, I often see discussions on which animals would do well in certain sporting events - like how the cheetah would win the 100m sprint (until you count the peregrine falcon), the black marlin would dominate the swimming (I suppose it'd count as Butterfly stroke?) and how poison dart frogs are the best animal wrestlers (I mean, seriously, look it up).

But I rarely ever hear discussions on which animals would do well in the various Gymnastic trials - things like the Balance Beam, the Vault, the Bars or even simple Floor Exercises. I figure there are a lot of animals that could do well in these on virtue that they'd naturally do very comparable things in nature.

So, which animals do you think would be the best gymnasts on certain disciplines?

I think gibbons would probably be the best gymnasts of the mammals, hands down.

How so? I see them doing sprints and other things without issue (which is track and field), but how would they do the bars and whatnot?

I've often thought something like a Rocky Mountain Goat or a Klipspringer would be good on the balance beam or the vault, considering they can clamber over very narrow ledges with ease.

I think the Common hippopotamus would astound us on the uneven bars.

A rather slow routine, but what about sloths on the uneven bars? Not great on floor however!

Orangutang or chimp at still rings

    Lar gibbon at horizontal bar

    Silvery gibbon at parallel bars

    Siamang at high bar

(Gibbons basically for any gymnastics involving height and acrobatics)

    Least weasel at trampoline

    Red kangaroo at amateur boxing

Squirrels would also be good at several events.

Octopus would win every gymnastic category as far as it's allowed to be performed underwater.
