Mainly on remote islands, including the Galapagos, Tonga and Hawaii.

Just about anywhere in Europe and the Middle East. The same thing goes for most islands.

What animals from East Africa aren't shown in zoos? There are plenty of animals from there in zoos generally.

It was kind of meant to be an example. But Ethiopian wolves, Somali Hedgehogs, Somali leopards, Somali ostriches to name a few, are not often seen in zoos.

I would love to see Caribbean mammals especially such as Solenodons and a wider variety of hutias in zoos.

I suppose the ethiopian Region is very less represented, due to a ban on sending animals to other countries.

The only exception seems to be the Jelada baboon, but many interesting species like Ethiopian wolves, Mountain Nyalas and Walia ibexes aren´t shown anywhere (and will not be in the nearer future).

I don't think there are geladas in the USA. Where are you that you see them?

Currently the only collection in the United States with geladas is the Bronx zoo but San Diego is planning on importing them very soon

Maybe the Mexico and Brazil (in regards to reptiles and many birds) would be a countries whose wildlife is not well-represented in zoos world-wide or at least in zoos in the U.S. and Europe. Because of these countries bans on export of wildlife. Similar case with Ethiopia.

Also, what about Niger and Nigeria?

Do they have that strong of a ban? Seems like there are plenty of species in zoos from Mexico and Brazil.

I know Mexico has some strict rules about importing animals, but I don't know anything about their export laws. I do believe that Brazil has strict laws about exports; most Amazonian species imported from the wild into US zoos come from countries like Guyana or Colombia because it's easier, the exception being species or subspecies that are endemic to Brazil. Also, at least some animals exported out of Brazil and their offspring are still owned by the Brazilian government.

That being said, there are indeed many species from those two countries represented in zoos.

    @ Elefante:

I am from Germany and we have some Jeladas in German (and also some European) Zoos.

In the Moment, 25 European Zoos Keep Gelada baboons.
