A camera trap in Serra dos Orgaos National Park in Brazil has captured a clear full body picture of a leucistic (white) mountain lion. White South African lions (Panthera leo) are well known but this may be the first true white puma or mountain lion (Puma concolor) recorded. There was a partially white one in a zoo in Spain many years ago, but I have never seen one like this.
Lucas Gonçalves on Instagram: “Pesquisa muito especial! Esse é o primeiro registro de leucismo em onça-parda (Puma concolor) na natureza! Obrigado e parabéns ao time do…”

I am going to tag @DavidBrown , @TeaLovingDave , @devilfish , since I know they will be interested. (Not that others won't be interested, but these are the ones I know specifically).

Ooops - I mistakenly assumed this was a recent sighting. However I was just informed the photo was taken back in 2013.

I was just looking for the thread on unusual animal colors to post this! The photo itself is a few years old, but was only just discovered/shared today.

Edit: Translating his caption, the paper on the animal will be in the January 2019 CatNews. CatSG: Home
