Hi, I'm currently vacationing in Croatia. The country seems to be blooming. Apartments or be being built and renovated left and right , hotels also. The friends of Dubrovnik antiquities have dozens of rebuilding or renovation projects. I'm now in Split which has two relatively new giant shopping malls. So why no plans for zoos or aquariums ? Btw there is a plan for a 60 meter glass tunnel underneath a bay.
aquariums are becoming more popular as for profit attractions but zoos not so much so (see the profit/nonprofit discussion in another thread) I guess my guess would be that anyone wanting to open a zoo or aquarium , Croatia is probably not high on the list,
One problem is that jobs are not that easy to find and since joining the EU many skilled young Croatians have left/ are planning to leave, which leaves an ageing population... The tourism industry is booming indeed, so an aquarium on tbe coast should be feasible. There is however much less of a zoo culture in this part of the continent.
Actually Croatia have one relatively new aquarium. It is big freshwater aquarium in Karlovac. It was opened in 2016. More info here: Aquatika
