After 20 years 1.2 Pere David's deer (Elaphurus davidianus) arrived at the zoo, they can be found in the former fellow deer enclosure. The Persian fallow deer (Dama mesopotamica) that used to live in that enclosure can now be found in the new enclosures for Asian ungulates. On the 27th of June a male domestic yak was born and a week later a female was born, this is the first time that a domestic yak was born in Wilhelma Zoo. A few hundred Deserta Grande wolf spider (Hogna ingens) hatched behind the scenes. The zoo received 50 spiders from Zoo Köln and was finally able to breed them! The Deserta Grande wolf spider is the rarest wolf spider in Europe with only an estimated of 4000 individuals in their ancestral habitat. In May 6 Geladas (Theropithecus gelada) were born. In June 1-year old female California sea lion (Zalophus californianus) Nalu arrived from Zoo Wuppertal. In June a 7-year old male Freshwater crocodile (Crocodylus johnsoni) arrived from Zoo Frankfurt, to accompany the already present female. At the beginning of June a male California sea lion (Zalophus californianus) was born.
