No - the previous male Kasanga did not integrate with all of the females (the older females would not accept him and he was not dominant enough) and was also not suited to the safari park style of enclosure. We were told this by a keeper while on a keeper experience.
I was fascinated to see melanistic grey squirrels in the monkey enclosure. It was also great to watch red kite circling over the lions awaiting a chance to grab a scrap.
Woburn has long held Melanistic Grey Squirrels in its woodlands. I think I may have seen white ones there too. They are also the only park(that I know of) that have piebald and silver/blue colour-phases of Fallow Deer in their herd.
I believe Woburns male is the AI donor for Donna's pregnancy at Whipsnade. Other than that - not that I know of.
I think that Whipsnade should get a new Bull elephant in as Emmet has sired a lot of calves and his breeding age daughter is thier. They should do this as they need new blood within thier herd and Emmets daughter having a baby could lead to a fight within the herd
I could be wrong but Donna`s calf may not cause any conflict within the herd as Emmet will probably not be intergrated into the herd until calf is older (i could be wrong). Emmet will possibly move on but his sons are probably higher on the transfer list than him. Studbook will decide however. New blood is a nice thought but herd dynamics are more important I would of thought
All of his other surviving bull calves have been transferred to other facilities. His sons George and Scott are living as a bachelor group in Katowice Zoopark in Poland, and his other surviving bull calf Boon Choi was born through AI to a zoo in Israel and is currently living in a bachelor group at a zoo in Turkey. Also his daughter Donna having a calf should not cause any conflict in the herd whatsoever, if anything it will help strengthen the herd by adding a third generation to the matriline at the park.
A new male Camel has arrived from Blackpool Zoo. Six year old Khan & it is hoped he will breed with the 2 females Rita & Saturday. I`m guessing the original 2 males are possibly calves from the females ?
