I'm curious, how are the woodpeckers kept? Singly, any pairs?

DWA has two Puerto Rican woodpeckers, kept singly (one in each of the large walkthrough exhibits). However in mundo maya that woodpecker shares with two acorn woodpeckers. I saw a pair of acorn woodpeckers also at the California Living Museum.

Makes sense since Acorn Woodpeckers are social.

Wonder if singles are normal due to low availability, low interest, or bigger numbers means more damage... Either way, a group I wish was more widely kept... many are quite striking in plumage and their unique habits can be entertaining.

A question that someone may or may not have the answer to - does anyone know if any Lineated Woodpeckers are still around? I know Milwaukee was breeding this species 5 or so years ago, are any still around?

It’s not like this is new news or anything. They haven’t been there since late 2019, but still very unfortunate :(.

I've heard tell Miami may have one too - need confirmation though.

No longer - the species is gone from North America, probably for good... :(

Bear Mountain State Park has the species.
