Was just browsing Zootierliste and was wondering when hammerhead bats (Hypsignathus monstrosus) joined the collection at Wroclaw, and where they originated from. I've looked around for further information, but to no avail. There is apparently one other place in Europe housing them, the Wild Cats Breeding Centre in Wassenberg, Germany.
They were present earlier this month, in a semi offshow cage in the Congo section of the Afrykarium; I believe they will be free-flying in there once they have settled. As far as I know, they came from Belgium, but whether that was an import, or a confiscati, I don't know.
Those are probably the coolest bats around, it would be cool if they have multiple males that will form a lek in the future. The only thing that needs to be arranged is night visits then
