Who or what are they. Please always make sure to mention the animal species when using their names.

Dayo and Hodari are the black Rhino who originally came from Berlin Zoo. Jasper is actually their father who has arrived today and his sons have gone off to join the breeding programme in Holland.

Thanks, they could have been red-cheeked turaco otherwise ;).

The only zoo they could have gone to is Safaripark Beekse Bergen I would say...

With respect , the earlier posts did make it clear they were about the black Rhino, the species was named, you just have to read a few consecutive posts to understand that!

Am I right in thinking Jasper will stay here permanently or just until he has sired a number of young ?

It is my understanding, after talking to one of the hoofstock keepers on arrival day, that Jasper is now retired from the breeding programme as his sons, Dayo and Hodari are now taking his genes into the new generation. YWP plan to bring in a female to partner with Makibo next year, but don't expect babies for a few years due to their young age! There is more info on YWP website.

Thank you for confirming. I do like the fact that Yorkshire do re-home animals that are not or no longer required in the breeding programs ie; Jasper,Victor and the lions.

Me too! Whilst we all like to see baby animals, particularly of endangered species, its good to see the oldies being well looked after and given the same level of love and care!

Oooh that's very nice, and unexpected! Presumably intended to be added to the existing walk-through lemur enclosure?

Indeed, they are to be mixed with the ring-taileds.

They were in the off show area near the lions. Didn't see the new guys today, but did notice the B&W as we walked past towards the gates. Assume they cannot keep all of them though?!

They might get away with it - they did originally have 3 species in there (Brown being the third), although having the Ruffs moved off-show would seem to suggest they're not planning to. A shame if so, I love those fluffy guys!
