To make the most of the warm weather, the park will be holding a special evening event

How nice is that! That sounds like my ideal kind of event!

I massively want to go to that. Shame I'll be at work in boring old Bracknell instead

It is about time someone invented a teleporter because I would have liked to have gone as well. Where is the best place in the country to live for the best zoo access?

But not so good for getting to the Kent and Devon zoos, though ;)

YWP have submitted another application for a new enclosure near to the camels on currently barren ground on the edge of the plantation. No mention of a species.

What did you search for to get to the plans?

African Elephants possibly ? This is my guess from looking at their current map of the park. I`m probably wrong but it would be the best addition IMO and apart from WMSP there are no African elephants around the northern part of the British isles now unless you head up to Scotland. Fingers x this comes to fruition

For now it seems HSE has turned down the application on safety grounds (pipelines ...).

They usually reject every proposal but the Park appeal on the grounds that the individual enclosure won’t cause a more than 10% increase in visitors. The new enclosure directly behind this which was believed to be for a female polar bear has been approved even though the gas line passes through it so I would expect this one to be also.

This looks quite a small enclosure to me with trees inside the house? I know that red panda was on the original plans and would probably be suitable.

Looks like the enclosure in the woods could be passed as well with only a few local residents raising concerns about a loss of biodiversity in the woods even though all the local specialists have said it would potentially have a beneficial effect and so I would expect it to be passed.

Looks like it could be an exciting year.

You can say that again! It seems like a lot is happening for them at the moment, a lot of traction with plans.

I see that the new elevated walk way between the S.American area and the tigers is now open. I believe this was initially part of the Okapi enclosure, are there plans to complete this project or have other opportunities put okapi on a back burner?

I'm not aware of any change of plan - it would make sense for them to complete the path first as otherwise blocking off that area to build path and enclosure at once would create a dead end on the whole path from the start of the African section near the wallabies all the way to the tigers (and to the camels). Don't have any inside knowledge though!

Called in today, mainly to see the Okapi and dropped lucky as one out in the enclosure. Posted a few photos in media section.
