Cock-of-the-rock is a cotinga. In many ways this family is the South and Central American equivalent of the primarily New Guinean bird-of-paradise but they're not closely related.

Quite a lot in captivity. Most in North America but reasonable numbers elsewhere too.

You'd be wrong there, too - they are around in very small numbers in South America, the USA and possibly Japan.

-Tasmanian devil (Toledo recently got a loan from Monarto :) )
-Lammergeier (I don't think there's any in captivity in North America :( )
-Northern white rhinoceros (The last one in the U.S. is geriatric and lives in the SD Safari Park)
-Sumatran rhinoceros (Harrappan left Cincinnati :( )
-Nyala (Some zoos have them, just gotta go to one that has em :p )
-Giant otters (Toledo's master plan hopes to obtain them, LA and Philidelphia carry them. If I'm not mistaken a few institutions in Europe do too)
    -Moose (Columbus has a few)
-Steppe lemming ( Rare in the U.S. with some private collectors, probably some institutions in Europe?)
-Emerald toucanet (Some zoos and aquaria carry them)
-Jentink's duiker (Too late, last captive in the world died at the Gladys Porter Zoo in 2013 :( )
-Ocean sunfish (Monterey Bay has one)
    -Okapi (Some zoos have them)
-Laysan albatross (Gotta go at the right time, though, the individual is only out for half an hour at the Monterey Bay aquarium as an outreach animal)
-Gaur (Some places have them, though I've heard they're on decline in replacement for more "showy" animals)
-Marco Polo argali (Anyone know where I can find these fellows in the U.S. or are they reserved for the European collections, such as Tierpark Berlin and Moscow?)

Around 40-odd years ago I started writing in a book a list of animals I wanted to see. Just recently I found the book at the bottom of a box of stuff I was going through. I'd looked for it when I joined this site but couldn't find it and thought it had been destroyed. I've since crossed off a few things I've seen, here's the list as it now stands:

    Armadillo, Giant
    Antelope, Royal
    Antelope, Four-horned
    Aye-aye *
    Chameleon, Giant
    Colugo
    Coati, Mountain
    Cusimanse
    Dolphin, Ganges
    Dolphin, Spotted
    Draco volans
    Degu
    Eel, Gulper
    Frog, Paradoxical
    Gundi
    Hoatzin *
    Indri *
    Iguana, Galapagos Land
    Iguana, Galapagos Marine
    Jacamar
    Kagu
    Krait
    Kestrel, Mauritius *
    Linsang
    Mole, Star-nosed
    Mussurana
    Monkey, Yellow-tailed Woolly
    Narwhal
    Otter-shrew
    Pangolin
    Possum, Honey
    Rat, Maned
    Rail, Red-billed *
    Rail, Wake *
    Raccoon, Crab-eating
    Rhinoceros, Javan *
    Scalytail
    Skimmer
    Skunk, Striped
    Skunk, Spotted
    Solenodon, Cuban *
    Solenodon, Haitian *
    Sifaka
    Seal, Mediterranean Monk *
    Tamarau *
    Thylacine *
    Tody
    Tiger, Javan *
    Tarsier
    Viscacha, Mountain
    Xenodon, Merrem's
    Yapok

Those with an asterisk indicate species represent species that were extremely rare or endangered and that I was not likely to see in captivity. The interesting thing is, there are 8 species in my book with asterisks that I have seen, mainly due to them becoming more common in captivity in the last 40 years.

    :p

From your list I saw Andes and James's flamingos at Berlin zoo-aquarium and Brown Hyena and Bharal at Berlin tierpark. So you know where to go for see some of your wished ;-)

    P. S: I saw Brown Hyena too at Prague zoo. And Bharal at Jardin des Plantes in Paris.
    P. P. S. What is "white-crowned vulture"? Never heard it. If you mean white-headed vulture (Trigonoceps occipitalis), it's also in Berlin ;)

Brown Hyaena is no longer at Tierpark Berlin, unfortunately.

You will have seen mislabeled Malayan Tiger at Tierpark Berlin, not Indochinese.

That may be right, Thylo. It is still labelled as P.t.corbetti in Zootierliste, as it was when I saw it.

Not anymore it isn't, I checked ztl before responding and all incorrectly listed tigers were moved a while back. I believe the zoo still lists them as corbetti as the director does not accept the split, but all the animals currently in captivity in North America and Europe are jacksoni.

I don't think that you have many chances to see kouprey in any zoo since it's extinct ;-)
