Man, I can't believe how much this zoo has changed (for the better) since my visit in 2011. I'm really considering going back someday, it's a long but worthy car ride.

Yes, indeed. The have formed close ties to Dvur Kralove Zoo in Czech Republic.

Would be nice to have some more zoo news from around Bassin d'Arcachon.

Best of wishes to both the staff and animals. These are scary times...

Around a dozen animals at the zoo have died of stress and from the high temperatures at the zoo; 363 animals that could be moved have been transported to a zoo in Bordeaux-Pessac, 65km away.

The information comes from this news article (final paragraph under the second heading, just above the 'Landiras wildfire' heading):
Heatwave: Ferocious European heat heads north

From reports on Facebook, it appears that male orangutan, Besar, is one of the animals who has died.

Beauval has temporarily received ca. 50 animals from the Zoo du Bassin d'Arcachon : small primates, sloths, birds and also 3 young Lions that have left Beauval a month ago...

Do you know where the two females have been sent to? (I suppose they left as well since they tried to place Besar)

Vallee des Singes have stated they received two orang-utans from Bassin D'Arachon, which I assume could be the two females, but it could also be their second male orang-utan 'Jingga'.

The animals temporarily sent to the Zoo de la Palmyre (including 1 Orangutan and 2 Snow Leopards) have been brought back to the Zoo du Bassin d'Arcachon.
This follows the end of the threat caused by fire expansion few days ago.

The Zoo du Bassin d'Arcachon has also sent back the animals that have been transferred to Doué to escape the fire risk : that includes 1 Jaguar, 1 Bat-eared Fox and 2 Anteaters.

One good piece of news after the turmoil caused by the fires around the Zoo du Bassin d'Arcachon : a Greater Kudu is born last night.

In a video posted on Vallée des Singes' Facebook page it was writen that the park received 9 animals from Arcachon including a bonobo !
After research I can confirm that Arcachon has a single bonobo since a few time and that this animal is not coming from european zoos. Don't know more unfortunately.

Didn't Arcachon have a chimpanzee and bonobo hybrid? Maybe that was the mentioned animal?

You're right they have one hybrid but I have confirmation this is not the same animal.

The Zoo du Bassin d'Arcachon has recently brought back other animals : 3 Cheetahs and 2 Siamangs temporarily housed in Sigean.
