Berlin Zoo are believed to have the oldest gorilla in the world: Yahoo is part of the Yahoo family of brands The Berlin Zoo threw a special 65th birthday party on April 13 for Fatou, believed to be the oldest gorilla in the world. Fatou arrived at the Berlin Zoo in 1959 when she was two years old, which the zoo believes makes her the oldest western lowland gorilla in the world. Her exact age is unknown, because she ended up at the zoo via an unusual way: a sailor used the little gorilla as a means of payment at an inn in Marseille, France.
As far as I saw in the past weeks, they are not working on the polar bear exhibit. You mean the exhibit, where the asian black bear lived until his death in early 2020. The penguin house in now open. They removed the older information boards. This is actually the pigmy hippo yard The signage you saw means: "all pigs are currently on their outdoor exhibits". The pig house is therefore usually closed in spring and summer, an it is open in fall and winter. I don't think it was empty. The animals were probably inside or in the rear part of the enclosure. Blackbucks and red-crowned crane live there.
The white tailed deer are not next to the Elephant gate. They are behind the Panda Garden, in the deer district of the zoo.
There was a signage that explicitly said the enclosure was empty, perhaps I badly expressed myself but it was an enclosure near the panda garden in the deer district, what I meant was that the Elefantor entrance was visible, or perhaps I remember incorrectly; regarding the pigmy hippo habitat, I was really convinced they were working on something else...
Now I understand what you mean. This ist an empty enclosure next to the white tailed deers. I didn't see anything there in the past years. I think it has been seldom used for a short time to rear some geese or something like that. It might be a site for a new big cat enclosure, but I cannot swear it.
If you saw an information board about pigmy hippos, you can be sure, this was really the pigmy hippo outdoor habitat. If you did not see any board, it might be the next enclosure, which was empty for a couple of month, and now is home to two young warthogs. Maybe you were there in the days when the warthog came and the keepers were working on that enclosure. I can post some picture later

A young male margay is being transferred to Berlin Zoo from Shaldon Wildlife Trust in the UK. Information comes from the Shaldon Facebook page.
Not really news but an interesting fact, according to a recent instagram post the oldest animal in the zoo is the 74-year old greater flamingo Ingo. Two weeks ago 3 Capybaras (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) were born. Sources: Instagram of Zoo Berlin (23/06/2022) Login • Instagram Instagram of Zoo Berlin (22/06/2022) Login • Instagram
Hello, Some questions about Berlin zoo. Carnivore house – when is the feeding time or the best time to see oncilla and margay? Night exhibit – when is the best time to see short-tailed possums? Bird house – are those on show: Ruppels glossy starling, paradise tanager, black-bellied sandgrouse, black-headed lapwing, blue grosberak?
On my visit the Oncilla nad Margay been fed early afternoon, around 14:30. The short-tailed possum is of show.
They were all on show and easy to spot during my visit in July, though if you don't see them inside the house, you may have to check the outdoor aviaries (or vice versa). The black-headed lapwings were in the pheasantry, not the bird house.
0.1 Forest Buffalo named “Rosie” was born on August 15th and is now on habitat. Welcome, Rosie The sweet forest buffalo lady was born on August 15 at Zoo Berlin. You can visit her opposite the peccary enclosure. ℹ️ The little one will later weigh up to 400 kilograms. Sounds like a lot at first, but forest buffalo are still the smallest version of buffalos and form a subspecies. Young buffalos weigh in at around 35 kilograms. #rotbüffel #forestbuffalo #büffel #buffalo #buffalos #babyanimal #cuteanimals #babybuffalo #afrika #africa #nichtgefährdet #leastconcern #zooberlin #berlinzoo #berlin"
When I visited Berlin Aquarium this summer, I saw a fish that was signed as "glass fish", Parachela oxygastroides. I just checked Zootierliste, and the species isn't registered there at all. Does anyone know if it's a very new species for Berlin (and apparently the first time the species is ever displayed in a European zoo), or if it's a different species wrongly signed?
I'm not sure, if Zootierliste has entries for each fish species kept. As to the "glass fish": Apparently, in Germany you can buy them for relatively cheap (about 10ish Euro) via the internet, if they are available. The one shop I looked up declared them a "rarity" and doesn't have them in stock right now. But I think, I have seen them in fish tanks before. According to Wikipedia they are often used for cooking in Asia and they are officially categorized as "least concern".
For the second time in less then half a year again a Southern white-lipped peccary has been born at Zoo Berlin : https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=2927169010910736
Zoo Berlin had to be closed due to aviary influenza. A hamerkop died five days ago of the disease as a laboratory found out today. The zoo was immediately closed. Internal sources indicate that they expect a closure of several weeks. To be found (in German) e.g. here: Berliner Zoo wegen Vogelgrippe geschlossen
