Cuttlefishes (sepias) are a good addition for Paris Zoo, although I wonder why those marine invertebrates were not brought to the Aquarium at Porte Dorée nearby (or any other Aquarium in Paris).
The Aquarium de la Porte Dorée displays only tropical animals. I don't know if the other aquariums in Paris have cuttlefish or foresee to have them. Finally, the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle (that manages the Zoo de Vincennes) works with other marine biology institutes in France, it would be easier to bring sealife from these stations to Vincennes than to other aquariums in Paris.
Hmh. Thank you very much for your reply @Haliaeetus. However, I allow myself a question in regard to your first part of your post: Doesn't Sepia officinalis also occur along the coast of western (tropical) Africa? -> Computer Generated Species Distribution Map If so, then they fit as much as Apogon imberbis or Dactylopterus volitans that are also kept at Aquarium PD.
Indeed the Cuttlefish Sepia officinalis lives along the Atlantic Coasts of Africa to the Southern tip of the continent. As they are native from European coasts, they aren't commonly displayed in tropical-themed aquaria in France, even if it would theoretically be consistent.
@zoomaniac another fact is that the Station Marine de Concarneau is part of the National Natural History Museum which is not the case of the Aquarium de la Porte Dorée (depending of another public entity).
The other aquarium in paris, CineAqua, has or used to have cuttlefish. I saw them during a visit around 2014/2015

Recent transfers in Paris : - mid june Odja, a 3 years old Kordofan giraffe, was moved to Sigean for breeding purpose. On the contrary Hama, a 3 years old male (same species) arrived from Bioparc Doué la Fontaine. The zoo hipe to breed soon again giraffes. - a male addra gazelle arrived from Sevilla and join the female group on the giraffes' plain. - two females roan antelope arrived and joined the pair already present since last winter. - the two males iberian wolf left for park Alpha in south-east France. Early july Paris received a male from Lisboa and a female will come from UK in the next few weeks to form a new breeding pair. De nouveaux animaux au Parc Zoologique de Paris
Is Adeline still the oldest female giraffe in the group or is another female still alive that is older. Adeline was born 96....think Ariane born 97 ist following her or does any other female still there that is older as the two giraffes still alive.

A few weeks ago I finally got the opportunity to visit this zoo for the first time. I had somewhat high expectations, especially as all my friends with more of an architectural background were absolutely crazy about this place and I had seen what the same architect was already doing on a small scale in Amiens. But unfortunately the zoo did not quite live up to my expectations, though this would be an easy thing to fix. For starters, the great rock really is something else and a tremendous zoo icon. What is also very well done is the planting and I really like that the architects chose not to hide that this is a zoo. So plenty of classical zoo structures like cages, over moated enclosures, which with the limited space would be awkward. In terms of sight lines the zoo really is a hit and miss, with many superb views where the visitor really is guided to see (or not see) certain things, but at several points there was also obvious cross viewing that could have been hidden more easily. My real problem is however the overcrowding of especially the Guyanan, Malagasy and European part of the zoo. Especially in the greenhouse, but also around it there are just too many small exhibits. Especially in the rainforest hall this takes away any illusion of a rainforest, though the free-flying macaws make up for that. But it also means there are many exhibits in this area that are either on the small side of just clearly too small and the great planting and structure of the exhibits cannot hide that. While structure can make up for a lesser size, as the puma exhibit clearly shows, there is a minimum size before structure alone is enough. Clearly the jaguars got the short end of the stick. It would have been preferable to see slightly less, but larger exhibits here. This doesn't necessarily mean much less animals, as there is still potential for larger mixed-species exhibits. It might be stereotypically French, but 99.5% of all education was in French, generally the only English/Spanish were the common names on most signs, but for free-ranging species or in the large aviary, French was the only option. There is a (prohibitively expensive) guidebook in English, but for such an international tourist attraction, the lack of English was appalling.
I agree with most points you have made, the rainforest hall can get to be a tad bit ugly in the first few terrariums and other things as the anteater pen. Although I thought most of the park was very visually appealing and I really like how many clearly manmade structures and vegetation mix up for quite the odd brand of "zooinmersion" (If we even can call it that), I would have appreciated some more work at some points. I also bought the guidebook, really outdated and misses many species for the price it has. I don't remember the exact price but I know I paid a similar one for Sigean's guidebook and it really cannot compare with everything both have to offer.
Recent news : - a southern screamer is now sharing the chacoan peccaries enclosure. - Mahery, a two years old male greater bamboo lemur arrived from Cologne Zoo and will be the new breeding male for the Vincennes. - a female vicuna has been born last october 24th and a male has left for Copenhagen at the end of a year. - the western baboons received new climbing structures. - the zoo will receive a female southern white rhino this year so works are done on the exhibit to allow this arrival (previously the zoo has a bachelor group). During these works some animals are not on view such as Grevy's zebras... In my opinion a very bad news as the exhibit was already small and not good for all the species.
Birth of 0.1 Roan Antelope. She's the daughter of MARCEL and ESPERA. She's born on 3rd February. Does anyone know which species of vasa parrot is kept in the tropical House? I think zootierliste and the zoo's signage say two different things...
