For those of you conversant with European collections, will the new Paris Zoo have any species that are only there and nowhere else in Europe or the world?
Heading to Paris in June so may try to plan in a trip to this zoo. The website certainly makes it look impressive!
Some more arrivals include; 2 red titi form Valley des singes and Basel 3.0 woolly monkey from Basel 2.0 golden headed tamarin from Mulhouse 1.0 Giant anteater from Zurich 2.0 pied tamarin from Mulhouse.
Will the plans for Vincennes be followed in due course by a revamp of the Menagerie? As it stands, Paris appears to be a heading for a future without bears, Tigers, or Okapi.
There's a whole section of the new zoo set aside for a Congo Forest area that is in the plans but not built yet apparently that is to feature gorillas, okapi, and pygmy hippos (according to the plans that are floating around on the web anyway). Some of the early stories about the rebuilding of the zoo noted that bears and elephants were not included in the remodel because of space limitations. The absence of tigers is notable, and speaking of which, does the zoo now even have an Asian animal area? I don't recall seeing one in the plans. From looking at the webpage for the zoo and the menagerie it looks like all of the Asian animals are at the menagerie maybe as they have orangs, clouded leopards, red pandas, and Prezwalski's horses.
A shipment of animals from the UK today included: 0.1 Crowned Lemur from Twycross 0.1 Grevy's Zebra from Marwell
1.0 White Rhino will arrive from Beauval shortly. He is two year old, Wami (Born 16/10/2011 to female, Satara)

Well the photo's will not load for me! Just have to wait for the first visitor from this site to upload pics
The Baboons are Back! Seems like Paris has almost a brand new Zoo now. The enclosures certainly all look very up to date of course. Nice to see the Guinea baboons back in residence too. I visited here once many years ago but the only things I remember now are the Guinea baboon troop- this is obviously a brand new enclosure for them but it could be on the same site as before(?) and the single Giant Panda.
A story on Yahoo news said that "Chief veterinarian Alexis Lecu said the one animal he wants is a platypus, but "we'll have to ask the Australian government." Is this a throwaway comment or a serious proposal I wonder...
