Zoo Dvorec has added a young pair of African civets on exhibit (they were kept off-show since last year). This is a nice addition, the zoo already has Haussa genets, rusty-spotted genets (Genetta maculata) and Philippines palm civets alongside common species banded mongooses and suricatas.

By chance I have found mention of another rusty-spotted genet on show in the country, this one being kept at Zoopark Olovnice, small private unlicensed zoo ca 15km NW of Prague, but I´ve never been there.

On May 22nd, their Philippine Cobra laid 10 eggs. They are waiting for them to hatch and no other zoo has ever bred this specie. I hope they can hatch the eggs.

    Security Check

A Naja Nigricincta also laid a load of eggs.

As announced on the Plzen Zoo news thread, 0,2 Chapman's zebras arrived.

They are mother and daughter. Here is the article from the zoo in Czech:

    Year 2021 in the zoo:

The zoo has obtained its first flamingos - based on a pic of 6 juvenile Greater flamingos kept backstage.

Offspring of last year is 2 watussi calves, pecaris, maras, unspecified cobras, 1,0 green monkey, a lion, several sacred ibises, 2 slender and 1 banded mongoose.

The zoo has built and unveiled a new exhibit for its lone male chimpansee (he is the only private-owned ape in the country). It´s better than his previous cage but still...

Former domestic pig enclosure has been rebuilt and now hosts porcupines (a group of at least 3 animals).

    Plans for year 2022:

A small pavilion for small mammals is under construction, with visitors space inside. Exact species not revealed but it should be a new one for the zoo.

All kept wolves will be sent to another local zoo. The area of wolf enclosure will be used to build an "African village" with exhibits for small carnivores and flamingos.

Outside cages for gibbons and baboons will be reconstructed.

Terarium house will be enlarged, with new exhibits for vipers, small crocodiles and amphibians.

This small house is named Wanawake and species line-up is following: rusty-spotted genets, Hausa genets, African civets, common slender mongooses, banded mongooses, suricatas, Cape rock hyrax, Egypt fruit bats and straw-coloured fruit bats. So basically no new species and only reshuffling of already kept stock.

After Dvorec obtained a zebra stallion, now their first ever foal was born. A male with blue eyes.

Additional species appeared in the small house called Wanawake (based on fresh pics online) - common kusimanse. That makes total of 7 different African mongoose species kept there. A record for Europe?

Straw-colored fruit bats have bred for the first time. The zoo obtained a group of 1.2 last year and they were kept backstage during winter and only appeared in outside aviary this summer.

Dvorec received a family group of 7 pygmy marmosets. They were animals kept illegaly, were seized by governmental agency and placed in a zoo.

Two young lionesses Cindy and Cruela arrived (from where?) in May and have been introduced to resident male lion Vratislav (2).

New species on show is a pair of red-and-yellow barbets.

Servals have twins circa 1 month old. Not sexed yet - still with their mother.

The only lowland tapir kept at the zoo, male called Boris, has died in December 2023 due to hearth failure. He was 21.

The zoo would like to obtain a new tapir. I think it´a good opportunity for some zoo to offload any surplus male tapir to this small licensed non-EAZA zoo.

I´m reading their 2022 annual report (it´s in 2 languages - Czech and English) and I see they obtained 1,2 Brown wood owls, 1.1 red-and-yellow barbets and 1.1 Samar cobra. Among species they ceased to hold in that year and not yet mentioned on this thread are: Egyptian fruit bats, eland, coati, philippine palm civet, common tree shrew, violet-backed starling, nandu, cobra (N.k.suphanensis) and green mamba.
