Late Thursday evening, a large tornado ripped through northern Illinois causing a lot of destruction in its path. One of the spots it hit was the Summerfield Zoo in Belvidere. A lot of buildings are said to have been destroyed. Two animals lost there lives in the storm, which is a lot fewer than could have happened in a worse case scenario. Though with the devastation came new birth, as two goat kids were born following the storm (This can actually be quite common in any pregnancy. It is believed to be caused by the drop in barometric pressure, but I digress.). The community has been showing a tremendous outpouring of support helping clean up the grounds, but after the initial assessment today it is believed that it will cost close to $200,000 for all the repairs. One of the local townspeople has set up a go fund me page to help the zoo reach that goal. Below are links to the go fund me page along with an article on the disaster.
