One way to mend this issue would to let people know if certain zoos haven't been updated in over a year or more. For example with the list for:
Red Ruffed Lemur - Obscure small town zoo (hasn't been updated in a year and 6 months)

This is still disregarding that American facilities are not as willing to be open about their stocklists. The fact has been mentioned multiple times now by several knowledgeable members, and should be considered carefully before jumping in to such a project. There have been issues more than once on here with leaked transfers or bts species. It is something that should be given serious consideration before jumping in to such a project.

Zoos have made it pretty clear that they don't want something like this to exist. Should we really be trying to anger them by making one anyway?

As long as the database included only species publicly known to be kept (i.e. on exhibit, mentioned on their website, ect.) I can't imagine this theoretical database running into any issues.

Yes. The public knows about their existence.

I heard that you had made an American zoo database, what's it's name?

Likewise for Australian/New Zealand zoo's. Will they be more open to it.?

@Chlidonias would probably know best. I’ve never heard of one so I don’t see why you can’t try.

There's already some NZ collections on ZTL, although I'm not sure how complete they are.

All NZ should be on ZTL.

After Ulysses Seal passed away International Species Information System changed. Before the change one could go in and read species counts at number zoo's. It was cool resources to go to zoo's then that had species I wanted to see.

Not really. There are only 43 collections on there, including some closed ones and some which don't have live animals any longer. It looks like they have mostly just used the ones on Zoochat's prefix drop-bar.

They aren't. Most of the lists seem to have been done largely by trawling through Zoochat, which is going to result in very incomplete species lists for most zoos. A lot of it looks like it comes from the "X in New Zealand Zoos" lists I have pinned in the NZ forum, which means that some species will be accurately listed for all holders (e.g. most of the exotic zoo mammals) and others absolutely won't be (e.g. most of the birds, for which I often don't list all [or, often, any] of the holders because except in special cases there is no way to do that without actually visiting all the collections).

I mean the collection is technically listed on ZTL, so you can't really say "they aren't". And that was why I was questioning their completeness, (what I meant in the og. post was how complete/accurate the listings are).

That is exactly what I was responding to.
