Mistake (or moreso misunderstanding) on my part here, Bitovany actually received old breeding pair and not the youngsters. The young males' new destinations are Sofia Zoo and Batu Secret Zoo
#23 mentioned 3 snow leopard cubs born 6.5.18. Does anyone know what became of the 3rd? Did the cubs get named? Many thanks for any information.
The 3rd cub is female called Annapurna, and she will stay in a zoo as a new breeding female. The males did not receive official names AFAIK
Thanks HOMIN96. I have been researching this overnight and found that the male that went to Sofia has the name Nix, which is apparently Latin for 'snow'. There are a couple of entries on the Sofia Zoo FB page that refer to him with this name. I think there was a story somewhere (but I cannot re-locate it) that the male going to Indonesia is part of a plan to get a Sumatran Tiger in return. I am still trying to find out about a female snow leopard called Jitusa (born 10 May 2003, Jihlava) and a male called Nico (born 29 May 2012, Jihlava). If any information can be provided about these two I would be most grateful.
Male Makan and old female Jituše were sent to Exotika Bítovany, homin96 mentioned it here few posts up.
And Ada and Annapurna remained at Jihlava, as they mention 2 females at the zoo in their report on the transfer of Nix to Sofia?
Correct. Also I think male Niko was sent to La Palmyre. In 2014 annual report, Jihlava sent 3,1 snow leopards to four locations (India, La Palmyre, Boiseire and Perm) without mentioning animal names. Little googling gave me: Darjeeling got male Fiči, Boisiere got young female (must be Bella), Perm got male Snížek. That leaves just La Palmyre for Niko.
A young male Siamese crocodile arrived from the UK (Crocodiles of the World) to be future mate for the resident female. A new group of King colobus arrived, 2 females from Duisburg and a male from the UK. Margay cats got a new cub, born on 14.November and it already shows itself to visitors.
A 3-years old pygmy slow loris male arrived from Moscow zoo in the middle of December. The 4-headed group of bush dogs from Chester zoo arrived. They were picked up by the Jihlava curator and keeper, but their van got cought during their return to continent in the pandemie/brexit restrictions. They spent Christmas holiday in endless traffic jams, just them and the dogs in the van, trying to escape the UK.
In the same transport, group of Spinifex hopping mice arrived as well. Final attendance for 2020: 221 764 visitors
Zoo Jihlava´s FB post shows one of the Senegal galago twins born on 3th March. FB And I have heard a radio interview of the zoo´ s director last week, he mentioned they had a recent birth they are happy about. But won´t release the news till much later because the mother had two misscarriages and then one young who died soon after birth previously, so they wait. I think maybe Ndari (babirusa) is the mother, just a wild guess?
Also, in the same interview was mentioned that Roloway's monkeys' exhibit should be opened this year, if everything goes well.
On March 17th 3 female Nyalas (*2019) together with 2 male Shensi takins from Liberec were send to Batu Secret Zoo (Indonesia). They all arrived safely at the zoo on March 19th. Source: Instagram of Zoo Jihlava (24/03/2021) Login • Instagram
Several kowaris (Dasyuroides byrnei) have been born behind the scenes, atleast 5 judging from the photo on the zoo's instagram (if the shown photo is recent). Source: Instagram of Zoo Jihlava (19/04/2021) https://www.instagram.com/p/CN1rWz7qicA/
It has been confirmed by the zoo. Ndari, the younger babirusa female, has a son born in March and both go out to their outside pen. Nice.
