Bad news. Ben Long is bad. He drinks very little and his liver is not working well. Now she is trying for treatment, but so far it is unsuccessful. That's horrible. After today's report on the abortion of the elephant cow Chendra at the Oregon Zoo and the report on Ben Long, I am totally destroyed.
It's an elephant calf. I thought his name was well known. It is the only calf that has survived in Leipzig since 2002 (it was born Voi Nam). Unfortunately, it looks bad now.
It is very sad. Rearing a calf, if the mother does not care for him, is very demanding. I hope and believe that the calf from Rani, which is due to be born in the spring, will be healthy and his mother and his "aunt" Don Chung will take care of him.
Does the zoo plan to reproduce Hoa or will it not be reproduced since it does not care for the calves?
1,1 Black-and-rufous elephant shrews arrived from Rotterdam Blijdorp Zoo. You you see them at the New Bird House...
Nice species and good to see more and more European collections have it on display ( althrough the founder-base is still very limited ).
Unfortunately all 3 remaining black howler monkeys died. The reason is still unknown. Three Eastern quoll females, imported from Tasmania in May 2019, gave birth. One dam with 4 youngers are now on show in Gondwanaland. 9 Cuvier's dwarf caimans hatched.
Yes .it is, 6 Zoos are many, and in this case, more of Sengi's will come in the near future. The only really interesting rare species I've seen were Sumatran Rhinos-altough this species were kept at two places, when I've seen them the first time- but in compare to Jentink's duiker and Hirola-just one collection with both, when I've seen them, Sumatran Rhinos bored me a little bit. Especially after I've seen them several times. But not so much as the Black-and-rufous elephant shrews do now. Also Douc langurs are nothing special, two zoos with them in europe, more will come, and I can't see Quolls or Visayan warty Pigs anymore-they are everywhere now. You know, the more often a species is kept, the less interesting it becomes.
I don't see the problem with 6 holders of the sengi in the whole of Europe! There are only 8 holders of Eastern Quoll too, not enough in my opinion! As for warty pigs, I tend to agree to an extent, 42 holders and 12 in England alone, I see them everywhere now.
