Leipzig is at the moment the only holder of Klasio rainbowfishes ( Melanotaenia klasioensis ) which where imported from Indonesialast year. Now the Zoo has archieved the first breeding-result with the species :).

Approximately 1.350.000 visitors came to the zoo in 2020, about 450.000 less than 2019 due to corona closure in spring and winter.

The first Lesser flamingo chicks hatched.

The zoos terrarium is closed for reconstruction for 2 years now. The reopening of the aquarium will take place in summer or fall.

A great part of the livestock left the zoo.

Long awaited reopening .... Looking forward to the final design. Any new information on what species they will focus on now in terms of fish, reptiles and amphibians?

Unfortunately Eastern black rhino bull N'DUGU (24) died. He suffered from severe therapy-
    resistant digestive problems.

Already five Lesser flamingo chicks hatched.

Still great numbers given the circumstances.

In Gondwanaland a tomato frog has "moved" into the enclosure of black-rumped agoutis. According to zootierliste the tomato frogs free roam Gondwanaland, so I persume the frog entered the enclosure by accident but still it's an intersting combination.

Anybody knows whether there are (planned?) tropical fish living in the main canal at Gondwanaland?

According to the Zoo's instagram, 4 Darwin's rheas have hatched. This is actually the first time that this species has bred succesfully at Zoo Leipzig!
