Grant's Farm, a free zoo located in St. Louis, Missouri, now has 40 new photos in the ZooChat gallery. Yet another little zoo that I've visited that perhaps very few others have on this forum. I visit them so you don't have to!
The property may be sold to the Saint Louis Zoo to use as a breeding center. Four of the Busch family heirs are in favor of the sale but one brother is against it and has filed a lawsuit to stop it. St. Louis Zoo proposes buying Grant's Farm; Billy Busch makes competing offer : News
Citing the ongoing dispute among family members, the St Louis Zoo has withdrawn its offer to purchase the property. (IMO a wise move). Saint Louis Zoo withdrawing offer to purchase Grant's Farm - KMOV.com
It is a smart move by the zoo, but I think that the zoo should perhaps have charge of just the animals. The African Elephant exhibit here is unpleasant, as are many horse stalls that aren't big enough for them to turn around in, with no yard to roam in. I have been here perhaps three times, but I don't plan on coming back. There is a Green Iguana exhibit with absolutely no vertical space, among other disgraces... hopefully something good will happen for animal welfare here.
There are no longer any Green Iguanas at Grant's Farm. ZooChatters will be glad to know that construction has begun on some new exhibits for small animals, located across the path from the waterfowl pond.
I know this happened back in March, but it's pretty significant news, so I thought I would report it: Bud the Elephant at Grant's Farm dies of respiratory infection Bud the bull African Bush Elephant has died.
So what is going on at Grant's Farm? Is the Busch Family still running it with the old zoo section intact?
The Busch Family still runs it. It's still a zoo. During my visit this summer, I saw some new enclosures being built, so maybe there are big plans for improvement of quality. Or maybe not.
Two female African Bush Elephants have died : Toby and Mickey, two African elephants who lived at Grant's Farm, have died This leaves Grant's Farm with only one elephant.
This is really bad Max the elephant dies at Grant's Farm, the third to die in recent days Its been a number of years since I've been to Grant's Farm, but they never had elephants when I had been.
That was Grant's Farm's last elephant. I wonder if they will get any more or if they will get something else to occupy the enclosure.
Apparently Grant's Farm has no plans to keep elephants in the future. They also claim not to believe any of the deaths are related. Grant’s Farm says no more elephants after recent deaths
