I just uploaded approximately 125 photos of this excellent small zoo into the gallery. Land of the Jaguar opened in 2013 and several new species were incorporated into a stellar South American section that is one of the best of its kind in the country. The species list from that continent is very impressive: Andean Bear, Jaguar, Ocelot, Giant Anteater, Brazilian Tapir, Capybara, Patagonian Cavy, Red Rumped Agouti, Tayra, Bush Dog, Maned Wolf, Coati, Black Howler Monkey, Squirrel Monkey, Golden Lion Tamarin, Cotton Top Tamarin, American Crocodile, Broud-Snouted Caiman, Galapagos Tortoise, Andean Vulture, King Vulture, Chilean Flamingo and several other bird species. The sheer volume of South American animals, all in mainly decent exhibits, is quite astonishing for a fairly small zoo.

Thankfully none of the animals escaped or were killed. That is a massive amount of downed trees though :(

    Puma return:

Cougars Jack and Diane finally return to Alexandria Zoo

The famous cougars Jack and Diane were brought back home to their new habitat at the Alexandria Zoo for the first time since August.

The brother-sister pair has been temporarily living at the Baton Rouge Zoo after fallen trees damaged their habitat during Hurricane Laura.

Their new exhibit features an outdoor habitat, a bigger night house and a tunnel to play in. Dr. Lakes said they’ve received so much support since the hurricanes and that they couldn’t build the additional expanded habitat without the community support.
