Very important birth for the small European population. Perhaps, apart from the beneficial effect of a new unrelated partner for the elder female was their transfer to the new Primate Habitats next to the Evolution pavillion.
The breeding pair is actually placed in old monkey house, On the islands next to Evolution pavillion are Mongoose, Crowned and Ring-tailed lemurs
Nice additions of recent months are: 4 months old King Vulture chick. First breeding success for Ostrava. Parent-reared. 2 months old Mongoose Lemur Elephant cow Vishesh had termin at the beginning of June, but still no calf is born. Keepers are on night watch.
Good news on the flamingo front: The colony of Caribbean flamingo (29 males and 21 females) has a record breeding season. First chick hatched last week, now 8 fresh chicks are running in the colony. 9 breeding pairs are still incubating, all of them sit on fertile eggs. Another 3 fertile eggs are in incubator. The zoo is searching for adoptive parents in other zoos for them.
Ostrava is the only zoo world-wide keeping this species ( since 2016 ) and this was the first birth of this species ( Dendrohyrax dorsalis sylvestris ) at Ostrava .
