Between June 22 and June 24 8 Rough-scaled pythons hatched after an incubation-period of 70 days. This is the third time the species was bred at Wuppertal :).

Three days ago, a young beautiful fruit dove (Ptilinopus pulchellus) has left the nest. It's the couple's first offspring, the female had only arrived to the zoo in march.

The creation of the new enclosure for Mishmi takins (Budorcas taxicolor taxicolor) and
Central Chinese gorals (Naemorhedus griseus arnouxianus) is on schedule and expected to open at the start of 2023.

At the start of this month 1-year old male Grant`s zebra (Equus quagga boehmi) Kemi was send to Zoo Berlin. Zoo Wuppertal now has 1 male and 3 female Grant's zebras left.

Tho I am a bit sad that the kiangs are gone, the new enclosure do look very esthetic.

I could not tell if the gorals are goung to be kept together with the takin, but if so is the area separateable? As I am not familiar with the history of takins kept with gorals, except previously at blijdorp where they seem to have killed the other species.
Might have been the design or I might even confuse species, but are not takins in general rather regarded as quite aggresive?

I'm no expert, but Berlin keeps (Golden) Takin with gorals in the new Himalaya area, seems to work so far.

More bird news: The white-rumped shama (Copsychus malabaricus) in the bird house also have a young that hatched a couple days ago. (Source: Facebook)

I've seen the goral/takin mix in Warshaw as well

Also, does anyone know what's going on in the aquarium? On my visit last month, about half the tanks were empty. Are they going to be renovated?

At the end of last month female Grant's zebra (Equus quagga boehmi) Charlott was send to Tiergarten Straubing. She moved to this zoo because she was the lowest-ranking animal in the zebra herd, that was increasingly being pushed out of the herd by the stallion. Charlott was born in Zoo Hannover on 14/05/2018 and arrived at Zoo Wuppertal in April 2019. Zoo Wuppertal now has 1 male and 2 females left.

On the 25th of August a second White-rumped shama (Copsychus malabaricus) hatched!

    It's a female!

On the African Elephants in Europe 2022 thread, it was mentioned that @Hyak_II received confirmation that Tika's calf is a female.

It appears that male Snow leopard (Panthera uncia) Irbis is infertile, which could be a side effect of his former chemical castration. The zoo is now in consultation with the EEP, to determine how they are going to continue breeding this species at Wuppertal.

The former red panda enclosure has been renovated to house Mountain caracaras (Phalcoboenus megalopterus) which were kept behind the scenes since 2016.

I'm going to Wuppertal tomorrow. Could anyone tell me where the Ansell's mole-rats and European ground squirrels kept?

The mole rats are in the big cat house, the ground squirrels are likely in hibernation...
