Kali is now 26 years old and primiparous so a live calf is very nice news. But it´s a bull...

Nevermind. It is extremely genetically valuable. Kali was fertilized with sperm from a wild bull, her son has no relatives.

Kali, along with Five, Ulu, Tonga, and Numbi are the only cows in Europe artificially inseminated with semen from wild bulls

Secretary birds produced 3 chicks this summer. According to the article, the zoo keeps 8 adult secretary birds now. Three breeding pairs are kept off-show in separate aviaries. Two females live in the walk-through vulture aviary on show for visitors. One pair had one chick in July, the second pair had clutch of 2 chicks in August, the third paid laid only unviable eggs this season. Eggs were incubated artificially and chicks returned to parents few days after hatching and hand-feeding using a bird-toy. That article has few pics.

Some aviaries, between Limpopo restaurat and Giraffe house, were demolished
Instead of them, there will be exhibits for turtles and hyraxes and vulture breeding center
Pathway for visitors is closed now

The Zoo communicated about Karibuni : In november there was a meeting between the Zoo, the city of Zlin (zoo's owner) and representantive of the regionale authorities to see how all can work together and help funding for future developpments. Things are going on but the zoo already said that the second enclosure and elephants barn will be completed in 2022 and they are planning second extension phase which will see new enclosures for large mammals such as giraffes, rhinos and buffalos + accomadations in african style tents for 200 persons + a large restaurant.

Some news about the current projects and some new ones :
    - Jaguar Trek is due to open in may. One aviary or more will be added and welcome birds such as parrots and...andean condors.
    - the new hyrax, tortoises and african birds exhibits will be ready in april. The construction of the vultur breeding center will start in autumn.
    - the zoo has not decided yet which animals will go in the old elephant exhibit. The elephants will move to their new house during this year as a reminder.
    - during autumn, the zoo will refurbish the asian aviary and the sloth bears exhibit. Regarding the last one, there will be an enlargment of the enclosure in the lower part to allow the bears to rest and hide. In addition, there will be new viewing points for the visitors.

Unfortunately no tips. A hoofstock is possible but the major part of large african mammals will go in Karibuni. Why not turning the enclosure into something different (small mammals, reptiles...) ?
