3 Northern Screamers are currently on-show in the aviary next to the Giant Anteaters. They originate from Columbia and are the only ones in european collections as far as I know.
I wrote to the zoo about elephants and their breeding. I was told that they were working on breeding all three elephants, including Zola.
I completely forgot about this post of yours. Yeah it is probably too late for them. AFAIK they both have cysts on their ovaries.
Two new aviaries were unveiled near giraffes on place of row of old smaller aviaries that were torn down. One with one pair of African crowned eagles (Stephanoaetus coronatus), deponation from Szeged zoo, they are illegal birds that were seized by Hungarian state and handed to Szeged. Second one has a pair of Black-casqued hornbill (Ceratogymna atrata) in.
Zlínské zoo se daří, má tygří koťata, medvídě i malé rejnoky - iDNES.cz This article says Zola has been inseminated again and is awaiting results! I hope AI was successful.
The zoo imported 4 young gaurs from zoo Mysore in India. They are 2 bulls and 2 cows, all around 1 year old. Now they undergo 1 month quarantine period and then they will be placed on show, I guess in mixed nilgai paddock.
That has been confirmed by the zoo, however that means they had to rebuild the stables or build new ones there and I cant belive that noone noticed it
It was, but that doesn't mean interested zoos cannot keep the species anymore and the preps for this import have probably started log before that decision was made.
Well the article from the zoo talks about "attempt to reestablish the breeding in Europe" so you are not far away from truth. Zlin was after them for long time, but apparently they still managed to get it done sooner than they expected.
Fantastic news! Zlin should organize some training to German and other zoo directors on how to get species which bigger zoos could not get or considered doomed to die out. With examples of doucs and gaurs. Now I only hope that Dvur gets Western Giant Elands.
Yes the stables were really rebuilt. I can't believe it happened. They will be very valuable to the European population. Great news.
Interestingly enough, this one was born just 16 months after the last one so the female must've got pregnant while raising 3 month old baby
