According to their website they have 2 females, Izzy and Sage, along with the 4 fawns last year - Izzy's 2 (Callum and Kathy) and Sage's 2 (Amy and Meghan). Do they now just have Sage and the 4 fawns, then?
The zoo just opened a new habitat for the 6 thick-billed parrots. They also have a new Canada Lynx "Wren" and a new otter "Iris". They're do for their AZA renewal this year so lots of construction going on.
Somebody started a rumor that ZooAmerica keeps and breeds Platypus, though obviously this is untrue. The new was even reported on by a few small online media sources. Duck-Billed Platypus Born At ZooAmerica ~Thylo
Not announced here but announced in other threads: Canada Lynx Kittens born: On April 17th, 3 Canada Lynx kittens were born to mother Wren. This is the first successful litter in the 17 years this species has been present at ZooAmerica. 2 female Gray wolves arrive: On Late June, Hazel and Freya, 2 sister gray wolves arrived. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=314403162909166
The zoo got an Alligator Snapping Turtle from the Saint Louis Zoo. She now lives in Southern Swamps, probably one of the exhibits at the end.
I'd guess she's in the one on the left, and they put the other alligator back in the one on the right, like before
I was at ZooAmerica yesterday and noticed they now have three burrowing owls in the nocturnal house in an exhibit next to the ringtails. Why do they keep putting diurnal animals in there?
Possibly issues regarding space, or maybe the owls are not getting along with the other desert birds like the quails and roadrunners.
Three desert tortoise hatchlings were found yesterday They've been named Autumn, Pumpkin, and Maple. "The baby tortoises will be viewable for visitors in a smaller area of the Great Southwest building daily from 10 am-12 pm and 3 pm-closing." https://www.instagram.com/p/CUI3RF7PscZ/
