I figured I was probably done for the year after returning from Arizona. However, over the weekend a couple of Golden-crowned Sparrow were found at the Christmas Bird Count. So this morning I headed out to the ponds at which they were found. There is still snow on the ground, but the sun was out and it was pleasantly warm. I spent a good long time sorting through enormous flocks of White-crowned Sparrows but I was able to track down my bird. This makes it a complete collection of North American Zonotrichia sparrows for the year!

well I googled that and you are right as usual, so I have edited the post. Dusky langurs are one of my favourite leaf monkeys (I've never been inclined to call them spectacled), much nicer than the white-thighed langurs. However the silvered langurs I saw the other day come close. I've seen eight species of Presbytis and Trachypithecus in the wild now, although the last "new" one was back in October 2009 (Thomas' leaf monkeys in Sumatra which are pretty neat with their Mad Max hairstyles).

Sadly the last silvered langur in the UK died before I could see it :( but I have seen both Presbytis comata and Presbytis melapholos at Howletts - which both are very similar to the Thomas' leaf monkey.

I've seen both of those in the wild too :p

Do you get jealous over monkeys, or only Carnivores? :D

Not a massive fan of monkeys in general, but I do have a soft spot for langurs and surilis :p

I've seen two subspecies of purple-faced langur (Trachypithecus vetulus) if that helps balance things out ;)

I would like to see vetulus, especially the highland form. I do/did intend to visit Sri Lanka this trip, but it may or may not happen.

I've seen the nominate and monticola subspecies - both of which have now disappeared from Europe.

I'm planning on one final push for more species this year. I'm going to be heading down to Brownsville one last time to try and pick up a few more species. There's a possibility of about 30 new birds. Here's hoping for 300 total.

@TLD and Chlidonias- You can both take comfort in that you've both seen way more langurs (and species in general) than I so there:p;)

Me too. Tomorrow afternoon I'm heading to a rock platform at low tide, should get two or three. Next week on the 31st I'm driving to my brother's farm a few hours away. Hopefully get something new in the evening, then the next day everything will be new again!

what's your aussie list this year hix? You must be going pretty good. There is a pair of magpie geese at berkeley at the moment. Did you get them this year? Me and you might need to team up for a few days out next year.

I'm at work, but the Aussie list should have hit 202 today. Although I got 54 in the NT, a lagre proportion of those were already ticked from NSW (Magpie, Peewee, Galah, Pied Butcherbird etc.) NSW is sitting at 183.

Uganda is currently at 201, but I have 15-20 birds still to ID, so will probably pass the Australia count unless I catch a wave of rarities at my brother's farm on Tuesday.

Nope, missed Magpie Geese this year. Also missed the Purple-crowns in the ACT last week.

    397. Red-necked Stint
