    Looked this one up in my photos and I’ve discovered the mistake - despite the animals obviously being N.boobook they are signed with the same Latin name as morepork.....

    So birds back to 44 and total back to 128

    Eastern Quoll is Australian, so not an island endemic by the rules of the competition.

    It is native to eastern mainland Australia and Tasmania; is thought to have died out on the mainland in the 1960s or so; has been reintroduced to some sites on the mainland.

    It isn't endemic to Tasmania.

    They're listed as "Java mouse deer (no species or subspecies status)," meaning that the animals are either hybrids or (which is probably the case with these mouse deer) their origin is unknown, so it is not currently known to which species they belong. I think the general consensus now is that they are lesser mouse deer, but don't quote me on that. Either way I'd say it's probably better not to count them until we have more certainty.
