    I just want to point out how lucky you Brits are. For all the complaining you do about loss of diversity in your zoos, 76 old-world primates is an immense number (although I realise a number of these are held in extremely low numbers).

    For a slight comparison, there are just ten OWP species in New Zealand, and 27 in Australia. Only a fraction of these are anywhere near a sustainable population and many have population sizes that can be counted on the fingers of a single hand (and a few just on the thumb!).

    Visa versa with marsupials and monotremes. One collection with dasyurids! One collection with vombatiforms! One collection with tree kangaroos!

    Psst. Get us a pair of devils and we'll give you all the lemurs you will ever need.

    True for Australia (not NZ where there are just 7 marsupial species - 5 of which are macropods), but they are native here cf. old world primates in the UK!
