It's the Allen's swamp monkey, apparently it does count as they are visible from the public path and they are an Old World primate. :)

Not necessarily.;) There have been/are some Red-capped Mangabeys in there too due to group reorganisation. You must be sure which of the two species you saw during your visit...:D

After a visit to Colchester on the 28/6/2014 I have added another species that counts for the challenge seen another hybrid that doesn't and added another sub-species that doesn't count for the challenge,so my total now stands at 55 which is a bit of a long way behind but I still think I could get the high 60's as a total given that I still have 6 months to go!!Still got a few so called easy species that I haven't seen yet like King Colobus and Olive Baboon given that both are held at collections quite close to me!

    Swamp Monkeys

Anyone still hoping to add Swamp Monkeys to their list may be interested to know that Paignton's two females are currently back in their house near the Gorillas.

You were unlucky- the 'terrible weather' (if it really was) was confined to the extreme East- a couple of hours West of Howletts and here's been no really bad weather for months now.

We are currently on holiday in Kent and have added the following to our list so far

    RSCC

    68. Northern bamboo lemur

    Howletts

    69. Moloch gibbon
    70. Yellow-handed mitred surili
    71. Javan surili
    Heck's macaque

I've posted a photo of the macaque in the to be identified gallery. My thoughts at the time were it couldn't be anything else and the keeper told us that's where they were kept but I'll let the rest of you decide if it counts.

    Port lympne

    72. Guinea baboon
    73. Golden-bellied mangabey

Very, very impressive -you're tearing up the field, if there were bets on this Paddy Power would probably be offering payouts on you winning already.

That said, the fat lady's not sang yet though I can't imagine that there's many more "challenge species" in the UK for you to see (memo to myself to research at the weekend).

I thought I got about a bit, UK-wise, but you've totted up some serious miles there!

we think 3 more if our calculations are correct (all isle of Wight) excluding tarsier (which we were told would be viewable by private tour before RSCC closes). RSCC no longer hold fat-tailed dwarf lemur and haven't done since at least april. What are your thoughts on the Hecks? Countable or not?

Our first visit to the isle of white has given us what we believe to be the final three for the challenge. If anyone knows of any we've missed please let us know.
