It’s the Lederhosen Derby: Munich vs Vienna. The subject? Primates. You’ll note that rather than the traditional two poll choices you have four. You can award all three points to a zoo, if you think one is miles ahead of the other. But if you think the match-up is closer than that you can split your votes 2-1. The points have a dual purpose, because not only do they decide the winner of each match, the percentages will break ties for progression to the knock-out rounds. Other than that, the rules remain the same: Your criteria for how you make your decision is entirely up to you, *except* that you must stay only within the given category. That includes ignoring the results of the other match: no strategic voting. All votes are public, and all votes can be changed. The purpose of the game is to provoke debate, so make your case for why people should vote the same way as you do. Be open to reconsidering your vote. Edit: I forgot my tags, didn’t I? Let’s see... @TeaLovingDave , @lintworm , @Maguari , @Arizona Docent , @Najade , @sooty mangabey . That’ll do for starters. Note that this is more or less a random list. If you don’t want to be tagged in future let me know.
I’m tagging people who have been to at least one of the relevant zoos, not necessarily both. People who *have* been to both will obviously have uniquely valuable perspectives, but it’s not required in order to vote in a thread.
I'm open to being swayed one way or another, given further information, but currently I have voted 2-1 for Munich on the basis that (barring one or two exhibits which I believe have been substantially altered or which no longer exist in the same form as that I saw in 2015) the exhibit quality was pretty good there, and the range of species displayed there was definitely rather more choice I don't know too much about the primate exhibits at Vienna - although if travel remains reasonably easy I do intend a three-city sojourn to Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest sometime next year, so it's a shortfall I definitely aim to plug.
It is a very close one, it is not an obvious strength of either zoo. Munich has a slightly larger collection, but Vienna has the majority displayed in two beautifully restored houses. Enclosurewise I would rate them relatively similar, though Viennas main flaw is a smallish Red ruffed lemur enclosure, where in Munich the Chimp and Ape house has a weird set up with only so so outdoor enclosures. For now I am going for a 2-1 for Vienna, mainly because of the great houses.
The current score is 17-16, folks. This is clearly one where you could make the difference between a win and a loss. Get voting, and advocate for your choice.
