    A couple of things, then.

    1) TLD and Maguari have shaken my confidence somewhat in the assumption informing my vote - that Beauval is doing something unique or, at least, unprecedented.

    2) It is currently 17-15 in Beauval’s favour, and casting what amounts to a deciding vote in a context where I’m no longer sure of the basis for that vote is a grave decision.

    3) I’m switching my vote to Plzen *for now*, though I will review further debate again before it closes in a little under 9 hours. This has the provisional effect of tying the vote.

    4) That means you all have to wrestle with this dilemma, not just me. So there.

I changed my vote to Plzen before it got close, I'm guilt free! :p

This is like Burgers vs Wroclaw in the first round, it's coming down to the wire!

I haven't voted yet, so I'm going to read through this thread very carefully because my vote could decide who wins it (scary thought isn't it:p)!

I just can't understand why Berlin Tierpark is losing because of a few bad enclosures and Plzen wins with several of the worst i have ever seen in a zoo. At least in Beauval some can fly every day.

From what I've seen the fairest description of Beauval's show looks to be that it admirably takes a good idea much further than has been done elsewhere. I haven't seen anything that's struck me as absolutely brand new, but it's clearly something pretty special regardless.

How were the rollers used in the show @migdog? That's a surprising species and one that I imagine could be particularly impressive.

I think London(?)'s bird show used to use Lilac-breasted Rollers and have them catch food in the air.

I'm pretty sure that's what they do at Beauval too. I'll see if I took video of this to confirm.

That is indeed what they do. The presenter threw some food up and a single roller caught it mid-air. This wasn't in the 2016 show we saw, so may have been a new addition for 2017.

Not heard of two of these: what's a 'White Ground Dove' or a 'Peacock Pigeon'?

My assumption was that they were domestic breeds of pigeon.

Sorry, never thought of that. I suppose a 'Peacock Pigeon' could be a Fantail.

Pheasant pigeon would be my guess.
