I did something unconventional today visiting together SDZSP (5 hours) and SanDiego SeaWorld (4 hours). Have read a few controversial opinions, about SeaWorld and since it was open until 7pm, decided to fit it in a half day, instead of whole. It was definitely a good decision. I will spend second day in SDZSP instead. After the Zoo World Cup final , another competition, most likely will end for me today. I am afraid, will not be able to fill the Y letter in a near future, but that is life.

My favourite group of animals have always been the mammals and this interesting challenge added to my zoo visits extra trill and excitement.

    Thank you @FunkyGibbon !

    The last inputs are:

While writing this, I kindly remembered @FunkyGibbon's opening post reminding us that planning and strategy are important...because now I see I made a major screw-up with my choices which I probably won't be able to compensate. :(

Yeah, some of my choices seem really disadvantageous in retrospect, too. If I had played just one species differently I would have maybe been able to finish this in a breathtakingly beautiful manner... But I really couldn't have known back then. I'll see what I can make of my remaining letters

    Editing.

I do think there is a fun variant of this challenge where you have to use the exact name on the sign, whether it's correct or not, but that would probably not be a universally popular ruleset!

@FunkyGibbon kindly remind me, that I can try to claim the exemption rule for the letter Y, hence missing Jaguarundi in the area I live.
As an Oslo resident, one of the very few capitals without zoo around, I need to travel for any single letter, anyway. Being on two continents for this challenge means respectively, that could reach Jaguarundi or even another animal, which name starts with Y, if I tried harder.
That's way decided not to claim the exemption rule and who knows, maybe Jaguarundi is closer than I think :)

That'd be extremely frustrating if you were visiting a zoo which didn't put the scientific names on the signs, or didn't have any signage at all. My currently-local zoo doesn't put scientific names on any of the signage because education is for nerds I guess.

Feeling the tactical burn now (not to mention visibility pressure on the species I'll need to finish!). Wallabia was always going to be a handy one, though.

It's tricky because you don't know how long you have - there are several letters I'd have held off on if the game was just most points in the year!

    Points: 45

Yesterday was the first time I saw an animal (Axis axis) which would have got me more points than the one I actually recorded. Juggling this is supposed to be a key part of the challenge, but I freely admit it was a frustrating moment. When the challenge is over there will be a listening period to see how (and if!) it can be improved.

I think if it had been held in the summer this would probably have happened. Which is a bit annoying, because it implies that lessons learned from this first run-through won't necessarily apply in the future.
